What are the negative effects of drifting? Besides spending a lot of money on tires.

IS it bad for the car Mechanically?

If so what can i do to make the car more durable, parts to buy , etc..

it is very hard on the car mechanicaly. you are putting it under alot of stress, and you will break things, if not sooner, then later. beef up every aspect of suspention you can.

I agree with 240kid - drifting is extremely demanding on pretty much every nut and bolt in the car. You're going to eventually end up replacing just about every stock suspension part on the car, unless you build it right the first time. Upper/lower arms, tie rods, coilovers, sway bars, the whole 9. You'll also want to invest in the NISMO or similar motor and transmission mounts to keep everything nice and solid. Other key parts will be LSD, brake upgrades, and of course engine mods/swap for more power and durability.

Think of it this way - what drifting does to your car is what bullriding does to your balls - they're both going to be hurtin' bad without protection.

any link of where to get those parts??

And what's the most crucial part of the car should i replace to make it more durable and solid?

So far i have cusco os front and rear strut bars w/ground control coilovers along with kyb agx shocks. Energy suspension bushings are going in soon.

Lose the ground control "coilovers" and get yourself a real set of springs, put in the bushings, then go search our sponsors for everything else. Seriously, the guys that pay to be in that left panel have EVERYTHING you need.

either get jic majic flt-a2 coilovers and parts or tein type flex coilovers and tein parts or jic parts. there is also whiteline for those parts and energy suspention for the mounts.http://www.jic-magic.com/http://www.tei ... nsion.com/

but yeah pretty much u have to invest in every thing all around from seats to steering susp brakes motor etc etc

be prepared to spend around $15k + to have a good to a perfect setup

if youre drifting then dont get flex. its too soft. gotta get HE's at least. or something with higher spring rate.

but aftercoilovers do go and get strut bars. sway bars before strut bars. gotta go from the ground up. anything that u can get too. cause stuff bends. i've only had my 240 for like 2-3 months and i've already wasted the tie rod ends :P.

Yeah I agree with Flex, it is pretty soft... I have them and they are awesome for daily driving. Saving up for a set of HE's for those track days and swap them depending on the need. They are pretty easy to swap... especially if they are done millions of times already. Flex handles quite well at the stiffer settings too but if you are a SERIOUS drifter, marshun's right, Flex is too soft.

but since you are asking this "basic" question 007, i assume you are barely starting. Believe me, the ground control and agx are more than enough for your needs, along with all OEM arms. bushing are a good investment and a diff., is a worthwile upgrade. Going all out on a "drifting" suspension will actually hinder your learning curve rather than help it. You must feel what is wrong with your car's performance in order to fix it. But yes, most sus. arms will bend over time if drifting regulary, but again...don't go in giant steps.

I agree with you very much. i plan to drift and if i break something i'll just replace it.

it's like leveling up. if you get better the stock parts can't handle the abuse you dish out. that will result in broken stock parts.

as a result buying performance parts is just a direct correlation of gain better skills.

i suggest learning to drift it when its stock. and then you'll be able to figure out what you need and stuff like that. cause if you just blowing money on stuff you dont need at the time, something else might break and then you'll have to sit out for a while to raise money. :)

wich reminds me that i need those damn tie rods and ends. :P

Your engine is going to see extreme amounts of heat due to the constant motion of the car going back and forth all the way around the track. Until the engine blows, try a good radiator. Koyo, Fluidyne, and C&R all make good products. Throw in some good fans. SRs and KAs both have notoriously weak radiators. The cooler your engine, the longer you'll avoid blowing up. Expect to pay a bit more for it. Making sure you have enough oil to feed your engine. I need help with that myself. Without an engine, you have no car. Forget your suspension for now. I agree with everyone above. Learn how to drift before you become D1 material.

Throughout what little drifting i have done (i say little but about once a week for 4 months), i had a broken arm that connected to the tierod (what the nismo power brace hooks to) and i made my coolant boil a couple times when i was TRYING to blow my motor. Other than that if you bought a good car just replace stuff as it brakes if you can afford it and the time to wait. Drifting isnt a great idea with your only ride but if your safe, you shouldnt worry.
