Bad ECU

I have a '96 240SX and the engine shut off on the interstate the other day. I took it in to have it checked and they said the ECU was bad. They replaced it and then the fuse in the ECU blew. They cannot find the short and the car idles rough and has little power, as well as a smell....could be running lean. The maintenance facility is stumped. I asked them why the short didn't blow the fuse in the original ECU but blew it in the new one....mechanic didn't know. Any ideas? Ever had an ECU go out? Similiar problems?Thanks.

If the ECU is bad the car wont run at bad, sounds like you might have an issue with MAF..

Have you done anything to the car recently?
