My 1993 Altima has developed a problem of dying and not restarting until it cools about a half-hour.

I've checked spark and fuel, no problem. So I pulled the distributor cap and rotor, then the dust shield underneath. When I did quite a bit of oil came out.

Is this the signs of a bad distributor?

Thanks for any :help

I should clarify that I got spark from the coil and this was after it wouldn't start (with in a few minutes). I forgot to check if the plugs where getting fire though....

If oil came pouring out of the distributor, the internal oil seal is bad and the only way to replace it is to buy a whole new distributor. New is around 550 bucks.

Alright, that's what I thought. Just wanted to check with an expert. I will have to skip the dealer for the part this time though. Autozone has it for $140, with a lifetime warrantee. I know you get what you pay for, but $500 for a distributor is ridiculous...

Thanks for the :help

And they wonder why the parts dept at the dealer doesnt make any money...lol

Honestly I dont blame you. It takes 5 mins to change it. If it has a lifetime warrenty for a 3rd the price I would go to autozone too. Factory part is only 12/12 warrenty.
