So I found out that I was missing the external coil for my distributor. I went to O'Reilly and bought an MSD Blaster external coil, and wired it up, pulled Plug #1 to see if it sparked...nothing. I figured it might have been bad wiring...so we ran the wires directly to the battery and gave it another try. Still no spark, thought the coil DID get warm. I have an extra distributor...so I gave that a try, still no spark. Switched the wiring every which way I can think of...nothing. Does anyone think this is anything OTHER than a bad distributor? But at the same time...I have to ask myself...what are they odds that they're BOTH bad?

Any help anyone can offer would be much appreciated.

Thanks,- Collin

Check the condenser and the transistor assembly.

Update:

I found the factory coil and repaired the wiring harness and have it plugged up. A test light on the plug for the coil reveals that the it is getting no power, even when I try to start the car. I have the factory service manual, but that's not telling me much. I tested every single fuse and relay in the engine bay (all good)...but still...not a single spark. The factory service manual calls for two "Ignition Relays"...but I can't seem to find them. Also, on the fuse block in the engine bay on the passenger side, there's a relay (and plug) missing. On the cover, it's called "IGN COIL/FL 30A/ANTI SKID". This 240 is BASE...power nothing, no ABS...So I'm assuming that's the reason I'm missing that relay, as I called a friend who has a non-ABS 240 too and is also missing that relay.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why I'm not even getting power to the coil? I haven't tested the ignitor yet, but I don't see a reason to as long as I'm not getting power to the coil...

I need help ASAP. Gotta get this beast, affectionately dubbed the "Drift Beater", running.

Thanks very much.
