So I just turned down a job that would pay really well so I can move away and start attending school. Does that sound like a good idea?

how old are you? how much does it pay? is it something you want to do and that you could do for the forseeable future?

If you're young, you should go to college if at all possible.

$14 is nothing compared to what a good college education can net you with the proper connections.

Roughly 2000 work hours in a year. $14k/hour = $28k/year ($20k after taxes). How much does a new car cost? A college degree pays a little more on graduaiton, and usually allows you to climb the pay scale much faster. A lot of folks make $100k/year with no college, but they're definitely the exception, not the rule.

I make $15/hr at an internship while I'm in school. You definately need to go to school! You can make a lot more than $14/hr with a college degree.

You think I'm lucky? I make the least of all my friends. I have 4 friends who are my age and making $25/hr. Three are interning at Amazon.com for the summer, and the other writes Linux drivers for a local tech company.

That's about the going rate for computer science majors down here. It's not bad money by any means, but it's not really anything special.

It's not like I didn't work for it either... I looked (on and off) for a full year before finding a job. Plus there's that whole schoolwork thing. :)

Yeah, I make $12/hr while I'm in school, but I have no taxes and get HOOKED UP with where I live because my boss owns it. School was the right decision.

You made a good move, trust me. My friend started in a grocery store at 17 and now he's 20 and he got offered a manager position (almost 100k a year!) and he turned it down because he can't stand working there and doesn't like working 12+ hours everyday in a grocery store even though the pay is good.

He is now working part time (still almost $20 bucks an hour, and time and half on Sun. and double on holidays) and going back to school. I guess it depends what you want. My friend understood that the money seems really good right now, but thats about as far as he can go.

College = long term wealth and opportunity for advancement

While that job may seem like it's a lot of money now, wait til you get older and have kids and a family to take care of...
