My 1996 is eating coolant temp sensors. They last 4 or 5 months and die and the car starts starting badly. What, do you suppose, is frying these puppies?

The Engine Coolant Temp sensor is just a thermistor (negative temp coefficient of resistance) Whose resistance varies from 10 ohms (very cold engine) to 0.15 ohm (hot engine). Power and ground is provided by the ECM and is part of a voltage divider circuit. Have you checked the resistance/voltage of the sensor?

Do you have DTC P0125? Where are you getting the sensor from? Have you checked the harness from the ECM for open/short circuit? Refer to FSM, starting on page EC-302 for additional info and diagnostic.
