I swapped out my front lower control arms with a new set from PDM Racing yesterday. I had no idea they were in that bad of a shape until I took them completely off and saw those ball joints...Yikes!!! To all the S13 guys, you car is at least 12 years old and if you haven't replaced your control arms ball joints and bushings they could look like these.

There was play in these ball joints. Modified by positronone at 8:54 AM 10/23/2006

They look fine to me. They could use new dust boots($5) but they're probably ok.

EDIT: you wrote that they had play in the ball joints after I made my initial reply. So yeah... good job replacing them.

I got three more parts to replace on the front suspension/chassis and then I'm gonna start on the rear.

How about tie rod ends? Mine made snapping sound when I turned, so I replaced them all. All dust boots were shot. Rear ones hold up better than front since there's not much turning going on, so they might be okay.

My front tie-rods and dust boots are shot. That is the next change that I'm going to make. I may have to replace the steering rack as well but we'll see. What kind of tie-rods did you get?

Unfortunately, I got OEM ones. I'm thinking about getting SPL tie rod ends later. If you want OEM, get Tein. Same stuff but cheaper. If I were you, I would definitely go with SPL tie rods. Don't forget to check steering rack boots. You can replace them when you do tie rod ends.
