Bad clutch ??

hi im new to the forum i own a 91` 240sx se hatchbacki bought the car for $300, and the engine is strong as hell but the body is what gives me headaches.

Recently i discovered a weird sound, like a squealing grind, coming from my transmission when i engage the clutch. Friend told me it was a release bearing that was causing the problem, but he only knows honda stuff, and is not very good mechanically. I was wondering if anybody here in the forum has had similar problems or knows what that sound may be?
