Will a clutch or a throwout bearing that is dying give you worse fuel milage?

A bad throw out bearing will cause a nice chattering sound from the transmission. A slipping clutch will reduce fuel economy.

Drive the car slowly in 4th gear, then hit the gas real hard. If the tach zooms up and the car doesn't speed up as much it's the clutch going south. As the previous poster mentioned the to bearing makes noise when the clutch is depressed.

Both are usually replaced at the same time...
