What can be causing my cats to go bad? I just replaced both cats on the passenger side a year ago and they are bad again and need to be replaced. The car runs fine and there are no codes registering.

Help please

How do you know they are bad?

They mostly go bad from running way to rich and get pluged up.

I replaced them a year ago and the car started making a rattling noise, occasionally loosing power uphill and sulfur smell. I took the car to a muffler shop and they opened the cat and pieces fell out.

There are no codes coming up that the car is running rich but it does use up gas a lot.

Well I don't trust any shop to tell me what's wrong with my car, the pieces could have been from the way they opened it, or droped it- I hope you some how remember what the inside of it looked like. You can read cats like spark plugs, if they're drark or pluged up its burning oil or running very rich,

Well actually it's both front and back on the passenger side but the front was the worse.

Did you replace them with OEM or aftermarket? Aftermarkets usually are garbage. N/A Q45 is right that they typically go bad because it's running rich (misfiring)... Do you have any bad injectors>

All injectors and seals replaced, there does not seem to be any misfire. The car runs good but does idle a little high but not bad. I have no codes on the computer and it passed smog.

Anything else it could be, possibly a bad computer?

You need to answer the question did you use OEM or aftermarket. There are many aftermarket ones that are complete garbage but they should still last a bit longer than yours did. Are you working with a decent mechanic or just doing one repair at a time at muffler shops?? You need to find a good mechanic locally who knows Q's, we've got ones to recommend in LA and SD but I don't know of one in Long Beach. If your willing to go drop it off in Venice, CA I can recommend a great mechanic that can figure this out for you....So Aftermarket or OEM?????????

Aftermarket and I would love the contact info for your mechanic in Long Beach. I am a single mother of 3 and cant keep paying money for repairs that are not working. I need to figure out what the cause of this issue is and make the proper repairs.

Thank you so much BadQ45t for all your help
