Can anyone comment on what kind of symptoms one would get from a bad BOV or recirc valve. Or anyway they know of to test it????

i'm not positive, but i would imagine that the valve wouldn't stay closed(ie the spring is worn) this would mean that the pressure would be realeased, thus creating no boost pressure.

You would feel no boost, also you would be able to feel air comign out of the BOV if atmospheric.

To check the recirc valve it would be easiest to spot with a boost gauge. If there was a loss of boost at WOT then you are having issues somewhere.

The way to test an atmospheric is generally the same as the recirc. You could put your hand outside the BOV to see if its losing boost at higher RPM's but the problem there is that in neutral or the low gears its really hard to reach full boost. That is why its easier to get on the freeway in 4th or 5th gear and punch it then watch the boost gauge.

On atmospheric BOV's you can adjust the spring to release different amount of boost. The spring is usually the only part of a recirculation valve/BOV that will go bad. You can buy new springs for most BOV's but you'll have to replace the recirc valve if it goes bad.

You know when a bov is leaking when you hear a loud hissing sound at any rpm range.
