What about going from a dohc to a sohc? I have both, the sohc is awful strong, and the dohc is yet unknown. The sohc is bored, I did see the crosshatches. The dohc has 120,000 miles, I'm just curious, in case I need it.

um, no you dont ever convert from a DOHC to a SOHC, unless you want to be slapped by everyone here.

The DOHC will always be better. Use the search bar to find out why.

Dude dont be harsh. He says its a backup engine. If its cheaper, you CAN do it without too many problems. But its less powerful (as you know) and has a lower redline.

Trolls suck, dont they? And you are being a troll, knightrider.

Dude the SOHC is a great engine. Mine was running damn strong before I pulled it for my SR. Quite frankly I find it pretty short sighted to say that the SOHC is worse than the DOHC just because stock it has what 10 less hp? Dude that's not even noticable when you're mashing the gas anyway. One major advantage the SOHC has over the DOHC is easier maintainence.

Examples: PCV valve. 3 minutes on SOHC and done. 3 hours on DOHC you're done. Timing chain, much easier on the SOHC than DOHC, etc. The list goes on.

Also you can put the SOHC has some pretty damn nifty upgrades. Check out Courtesy's Nissan Motorsports page for those nifty little upgrades. I figure those mods properly done on a SOHC will give the rights to the SOHC guy to tell the DOHC guy that he humped the DOHC guys mom and little sister at the same time. lol

Guys, I thought that might ruffle some feathers. Read, the sohc has been rebuilt, evidently properly so. The dohc has NOT been taken care of. When I posted this thread, I didn't even have the dohc, but now I do, and I would put my money on the sohc right now! This will also ruffle you guys up, the reason I ask anyhow is because Sunday night, I put my s13 with said sohc into the wall on the front strech just outside turn 4 at my local 3/8 mile dirt track!!! And you think DRIFTING is fun??? I now have in my possesion a 91 se for $500. I have 9 days to gut it , remove the roofs off of both cars, remove roll cage, transplant roll cage, IMPROVE roll cage, re-paint, re-number(19b), re-letter, and qualify Saturday night. The sad part is (and please don't hate me),this is now a pretty nice car!!!!! This 91, with 120,000 miles, will it withstand constant high rpms? I mean, I don't want to overuse the rev limiter... All opinions appreciated. What would my biggest problem be going with the sohc???

I never said the SOHC engine was a bad engine. I was just saying the DOHC would be better if you wanted to make it a performance engine. I know he didnt ask that but I gave him the info anyway.
