2007 Altima 2.5 Base 6-speed M/T

Hi guys, my problem is this:

My reverse lights come on no matter what gear I'm in. NEUTRAL is fine. I've already replaced the switch. Again, reverse lights come on in ANY gear (1-6 + R), except while in neutral. They turn off in neutral.

At this point I just have the switch unplugged, otherwise I'd be driving around with my reverse lights blasting.

Anybody know wtf causes this? Bad ground? Anywhere I should start looking? Thanks

That's a screwy one, the M/T circuit is very straightforward. Fuse -> Switch -> Lamps -> Ground. I'd be inclined to say it's a crossed circuit from another system like the tail or brake lamps except that they go off in Neutral or with the switch unplugged. That means the problem can't possibly be south of the switch. So I think it has to be a mechanical problem with the actuator in the tranny. Nothing else fits the symptoms.

Update: I had the neutral safety switch plugged into the backup switch and vice versa. Same part, same connector. Whoops!
