I've actually installed that on my FJ Cruiser. It's the VR3 Wireless Backup Cam. I hooked it up so it goes on when I put it in reverse. Very simple hook up but it'll require some thought and at least a electrical schematic if you want to mount the monitor some place that it'll look stock. For a cheap backup cam, it's pretty good and durable. The cam is actually a license plate mount.johnny_d wrote:Costco sell a cheap wireless one for 80 something
How can it only go on when the headlights are on? doesn't make sense. When I installed it, the camera had two wires, red and black and the monitor had two types of wiring harness; the type you can plug into a cigarette lighter and another that you can hard wire. I have a whole write up on it on an FJ forum. Here's the link.johnny_d wrote:i'm having a prob w/ the wiring. I hooked up the red wire to the backup light, the black one to common ground. It worked but only if the headlights are on. Tried to hook up the black w/ a black wire and it does the same thing. How did you wired yours? I'm gonna install it on my 08 Highlander as well. Hopefully the wiring is similar to ur FJ?
Here's the pdf file that I used when I installed the backup camers. I used this and correlate it the instructions of the VR3. I tried looking for the 08 highlander but it doesn't seem that Toyota makes one. You're best bet is to find a highlander forum and do a search there. Good Luck johhny!johnny_d wrote:i think i'll need to access the bulb and figure out the correct wire from there .... great write up, thanks
