backlight wont stay on

i'm driving a 1990 fastback manual transmission. My problem is when I turn on my headlights the green light in my intrument cluster works when it wants to. It lights up but doesnt stay lit. I try turning my lights on and of and the light goes on but immediatly turns of. If anyone has a solution it would be much appreciated
