Hey,

My 1995 240sx is backfiring at 1,500rpm. Usually when I am slowing down, and leave the car in gear it does this. The car is stock except for a cat back system. Not sure what kind of a system it is, it was installed by the previous owner, looks like a custom job.

I am not 100% sure if it is indeed backfiring; it is a pretty loud popping sound. I find it very annoying and would like to fix it. Any idea on what could be causing this problem and how I can fix it?

Backfiring is normal, you just don't hear it with stock exhaust. When you put on a larger diameter exhaust you will hear it, mine does it quite a bit too.

One time a plug wire mysteriously popped off the distributor and that made it backfire loud as a shotgun, but that comes with severe powerloss, shaking, and so on.

Don't worry about it.
