ok so this hasent been happening till this week, sometimes when im in 1st gear in low rpms the car will backfire or sputter for a little bit then it will get back all its power like then a few mins later it will do it again it doesent only do it in 1st gear thats just when its most noticable.

I think it may be the gas i last filled up with Kroger (grocery store gas, low octane basic fuel) ... what octance is recomended for the z31?

could it possibly be sparkplugs or injectors ? Fthe only thing ive changed on the car since ive owned it is Fuel Filter, New K&N BoxFilter & ran a can of seafoam into brake booster line its been running fine till this week

owners manaul (download one here: http://www.xenonz31.com ) states minimum octane for all Z31s is only 87.

backfiring and sputtering is probably timing and tune up related. could also be a clogged cat.

Didn't realize there were different manuals for the different models.

All z31 manuals are the same. Only changed for year to year differences.

The link he gave me had the z31 manuals z32 ( service manuals)

and Z33 owners and services manuals

i was just saying it would be cool if it had the z32 owners manuals on there too ( not the serive manual)

My name is Greg.. Im a newbie to this site and am having the same problem with my 85 300 zx.. I have replaced the fuel filter as well as pump and the plugs and wires with NGK.. also inspected the distrubutor and looks to me like its still good... i use plus gasoline if that even makes a diff.. And still cant find the problem.. Any other suggestions anyone might have for the issue?

most likely timing or clogged cat

if your sparkplugs and wires have been changed recently

I'm having the same problem as well. Plugs and wires were changed. Sounds like a Timing issue.

the cat is known for getting clogged up, check that before the timing, that's my vote.

had the same problem with an 87 corolla.... checked EVERYTHING and finally came up on the stuck EGR valve. $318 bucks new!

I bought some parts cleaner for 26 bucks, held vacuum to it and submerged just the valve, careful not to get the rubber diaphram in it and let it sit for an hour or so. cleaned it right up! it runs good now

I am putting a head gasket on my z31, and have been inspecting and cleaning everything. the EGR is the next thing to see the parts cleaner =P

Here's the FSM for 1994, it covers the vert and has the same info as the 93 manual: http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/300zx/1994/

If you're looking for a regular owners manual..... um.... why bother? FSM kicks the owners manual's a**. Not to mention, if you're looking to aquire a hard copy of a 93 300ZX Convertible Owners Manual to put in your car, um.......... good luck with that. I also own a 93 Vert, and I cant say I've ever even seen a Vert owners manual. Not even a picture.
