Sounds like beat-up transmission synchros or a clutch malfunction. Need to buy a rebuilt or junkyard transmissionIt is possible to shift a manual transmission from two -5th without the clutch, but who wants to drive liked that.

sounds like synchros, impending transmission death...

Before I get you jumping to the conclusion that the trans is bad (mine did the same thing until it blew) drain the fluid, check for metal shavings, refill and repeat if required.

make sure to use MT90.. redline is a good one.

ok, i drained the transmission fueled and there were metal shavings, i put 4 bottle on transmission fueled in there and the 2nd and 3rd doesnt grind as much as before but all it did was reduce the grinding..

woah woah 4 bottles? I hope you didn't put 4 quarts or you'll be drowning your transmission internals. IIRC its 2.5-2.8 or to the lip of the fill plug.btw what weight oil you use? I'm hoping not a GL5....

The metal shavings usually isn't the best sign, it might be time to look into repairing the transmission (not so cost effective) or you can look into swapping the bad transmission out for a good one (more cost effective but time consuming) I know quite a few junkyards and nissan part dealers here in CA if you need a trans.

I just swapped my trans finally... B&M guuuuuud

GL5 can be unsafe for yellow metals (brass etc etc.. the metal they make synchro's and gear assortments with) so in lay-mans DON'T USE GL5.... gawd knows I did and learned my lesson

GL4 is the rec'd gear oil for the 240sx manual transmission.

hmm i dont really remember wat weight i used but im pretty sure it wasnt that weight. i stay in the bay area and finding a transmission hasnt really been the easied yet, i guess my 240 is more of a project car cause theres a lot to fix. i would really appriciate if you would find or let me know of a trans for my ka24de.

thanks

You gotta be careful what weight you throw in your transmission, it cant seriously F' some stuff up.

as far as finding a transmission for you:www.craigslist.com is your friend

or our classifieds (NICO classifieds), and if your not gonna leave the Bay area hit up some of the local members and ask if anyone has one but otherwise get ready to shell some cash out to have a trans shipped.. and then you can't even inspect it before you buy it.

In 4 hours I could find anywhere from 3-8 transmissions for a 240sx... hell even more if I'm willing to drive to SFV to the nissan salvage yard.
