So I took my car to the Nissan dealer to get a simple oil change. I get it home and that night and there is a weird thunk noise coming from my engine and the "service engine soon" light comes on. The next day I bring it back and they said the noise turned out to be some loose hose that was barely hanging on. They also said they had to replace the Solenoid cap (i think, solenoid something) and thats why the engine light was on.

Now today I am driving and I get these two warning lights flashing back and forth..

All I know is the owners manual said that if it comes on while driving to pull over immediately and call Nissan bc it could cause serious engine damage not covered under warranty.... What the hell did they do to my car?

You can set your car to remind you to change the oil/filter... its under the settings tab..

Did you change the oil right before you were "supposed to"?

On the BRIGHTER side, it may be that you/dealer may have set the warning for you, and you brought it in early, and this nonsense happened, and just as luck would have it, today you hit the mileage where the "oil trigger" was set, and its no cause for alarm...

On the dark side.... well i cant comment on what the stupid people at your dealership screwed up...

Time to exercise your warranty. Since Nissan did your oil change, make sure you bring in your bill that you got from them for the oil change and explain exactly what happened... They will probably fix it for you because they want to keep your business. If they won't do anything about it, take it to a good repair shop and have them fix it, pay for it . Then never go back to the dealership again with anything that is non warranty related (oil changes, tune ups, new car purchases etc.)

Or plan B, if they don't fix it call Nissan and register a complaint... That worked for me in the past for something with Honda. Had some rust on my car and it was covered under warranty, so they took the car for 2 days and re-painted it for free. Now when I take my car into the dealerships I always turn off my stereo and my a/c. So when I got back into the car the CD was changed from what I had it in and the volume button was also adjusted. So I called Honda and they ended up giving me a free oil change and an extra 6 months of warranty that I abused

Are you joking...? lol Those are reminders that you can set. All the mechanics forgot to do is reset the counter, which you can do yourself!!!

Scroll through the menu's to the last screen, while you're *not* moving. And then poke around until you get to the reminders... that's all it is.

No I was not kidding. I did not know the car had that feature and I never set it to remind me (they must of set it when I bought it). But I just went out to my car now and you are right and everything seems is fine. I just thought the worst because this would of been the third time I would have to bring the car back after they gave me an oil change. Thanks for the help

Sorry, yes those are the warnings you can set. Then the clunk you heard from your engine was nothing?

*If you haven't reset the oil change/filter monitor yet...

Make sure that in that screen it has showed how many miles you racked up. It will say something like 3015/3000 which would mean you have driven 3,015miles since it was last reset and you should have it changed at 3000miles. If it is like that then it's just them not resetting the monitor. if it's something like 15/3000 then theres something wrong with the computer.

Just a thought though hope that makes sense

They said it was a hose somewhere in my engine that was just barely hanging on and they had to replace it.

Ok good, ya I knew about the computer that programs that, however when I heard you said the clunk with your engine I thought the worst. At least everything is ok now.

And while the topic is out there, does anyone else find those maint counters really really diffcult to figure out how to reset? It's almost like they don't go to 0 when you reset them until you go out of the menu and back in. It always confuses me.
