I gotta get my car reinspected (it failed, needed all new brakes, new tie-rod, a new tire, and I had to replace the thermostat, water pump, and Radiator to fix a cooling problem) going like this, I'll never be able to afford mods:rolleyes. Anyway, the back up lights are out. The bulbs are fine, the fuse is good, so it has to be the switch on the transmission, right? I only have a chilton's manual, and they just say to unscew the thing and put the new one on. I just don't know which thing it is. Any pics or scans of diagrams would be a lot of help. Thanks. BTW, if this was another thread, I couldn't find it, please tell me the name of the other one ir it exists. :help

i think the switch is in the transmission, check the wire harnesses underneath going into the transmission, maybe one got pulled out or is loose...

My first advice, get rid of that Chilton's manual and buy/steal an OEM factory service manual. Here's a shot of what it looks like on a KA24DE from a S14. You could use this picture as a reference...

I don't know what year you have, but on the 1990 manual trans., there are three switches on the PASSENGER side of the transmission that all look identical (with the exception of color, which depends on continuity).

Of these three identical switches, the "reverse lamp switch" is the one that is closest to the FRONT of the car. (The two rearward switches are for neutral and 5th gear ECU signals.)

As I recall, the switch is below the fluid level, so about half the fluid will run out the switch hole unless you drain it first.

When you install the new switch, use some kind of high-temp silicone sealant or gasket-maker on the threads. It just screws in like a bolt.

And if you're curious what kind of switch this is, well its just a primitive push-button.

I got it:ylsuper . When I dropped the Transmission to change my clutch, I knocked one of the wires of the Sensor. I reconnected it, and now have the lights. Thanks.
