Driver Seat Discomfort (bottom of seat angle)

anyone else getting annoyed or worse; numbing of the legs due to the front most portion of the seat being a bit to high?
i sit with the seat moved all the way back, and the bottom portion all the way down - and yet the front portion of the seat still feels sloped compared to the rear most portion of the bottom seat cushion. during rides longer than 45mins, it causes my legs to start numbing up. really annoying. it also causes my sciatic nerve to act up in my left leg. i would prefer to be able to tilt the front most portion of the seat toward a tad to lower my thighs a little - but of course, that was too much for nissan to include. gotta cut back as much as possible!

O.M.G. YES!!! Thought it might be just me, or the '11 I had, but my '12 is the same way. When I've got some spare change I'm gonna get a seat wedge. My partner says the Rogue is fine for short trips, but says the seats are just too uncomfortable for any drive longer than say an hour.

If I'm not mistaken you can tilt the seat forward, at least with the SL Premium pckg. you can.

The problem is the front of the seat needs to go down, which it doesn't in any trim level. On most cars with the auto adjusting seats, it's an 8 way adjust, on the Rogue it's only 6 way.

the front most portion (under your knees) is not adjustable on the rogue. the position places a lot of weight on the tail bone. this also reduces circulation in the lower legs below the knees, by creating a uphill in the thighs.

I definitely feel what you are talking about, and I notice it on longer drives as well.

I wonder if this design element has something to do with safety. Perhaps having a slight angle backwards assists in protecting the driver/passenger during frontal impact.

its probably their butthead designers and their ubber useless "zero gravity" seat design. they took the center most spot (between high and low) and rolled with it.

I personally find the Rogue helps my back pain - but half the year I drive a car that sits on the ground so that might be why.

They make wedge cushions for people who have the seat problems you describe. It will help change the angle of your lower torso to something more comfortable.

It's not like I'm asking you to use the beaded seat covers or something!

Has any one had problems with the driver's seat causing back issues like sciatica? I have owned a 2011 Rogue SL for 2 days and my back is messed up when I get out of it, sciatic nerve tingling etc. I love this car and would like to resolve this problem

there is no help. its the bottom seat cushion being too high in the knee's area. i hate this car for that exact problem. welcome to the club!

Thank you for responding. I really hope I don't have to get a different car because of this!

Similar/different issue with the 2014 Rogue. I'm 6ft6, so am not (ever) bothered by any of this, but my wife, about 5ft9, sits ok in the driver's seat, but complains about the passenger seat being tilted forward too much. Unfortunately that seat is not adjustable at all :-(

And yes, she has the same issue - sciatic nerve tingling after long car rides (previous car a 2012 Altima S with SL package, leather)

This is somewhat annoying for me too. My old Ford Escape had a tilting driver seat. Why couldn't Nissan put this in the Rogue? I had to lower my seat all the way and move it forward farther than I like in order to make it comfortable for me.

I have had a nissan sentra 2014 for about 3 months now. and it is killing my back. even for short trips. I have tried a seat wedge and that did not help much.

I would like to replace the drive seat of my 2014 nissan sentra with a more comfortable seat.
Can any one recommend an aftermarket seat that would fit.. or maybe recommend a used car seat that could fit in its place. my son is telling me that sitting on a rock is more comfortable than those seats..

not gonna happen unless you get race seats. this is part of the 'skimping' process nissan has been up to, ot reduce weight weight & cost of production.

A couple solutions.

I've modded enough car seats to speak to this issue... The easiest would be to unbolt the seat, add a couple plastic "risers" under the rear seat mounts, and re-attach. This will tilt the entire seat pan forward, and you can re-adjust the reclining function to be more upright.

Another idea (more work): Disassemble the seat and add memory foam (trimmed to fit) as needed. I've done this on my Miata and my 240Z seats (the opposite issue of yours).

Reinstall the seat cover using zip ties in place of hog rings. I use an electric carving knife to shape the foam, used different densities, and made a few really, really awesome-feeling (and supportive) seats using this method.

I have been having pain in my leg too. sciatic nerve but mine is on the right side, particularly bad after driving the rogue. I thought the seats were really comfortable on the test drive but after 1.5 years i have been having a harder time getting comfortable in the rogue. i'm not sure what to do either.

I'm curious if the people who are having difficulty with seat comfort are all driving a specific trim. My 2013 SV has premium fabric with a power driver's seat and actually smells like new car smell. The 2013 base model loaner I drove around for a week smelled like a cross between flowers, cheap perfume, and unused diapers, and the fabric was much softer and cheaper. That one had all manual seat adjustments.

I've had no problems with aches or fatigue in my legs or back after months of driving my SV, but after just five days of driving around that piece of crap base model, I've needed two chiropractic visits to get myself back to normal.

I have a 2012 SV Premium package with cloth seats.

I am also 6'2" 220lbs. I have the seat back as far as it will go and as low as it will go. If i raise the seat up higher it does seem to get more comfortable but it also pushes me too close to the steering wheel.

2008 SL (leather top of the line trim).

5'11" / 200lbs.

seat is all the way back, all the way down, sitting upright normally.

if i move the seat up any higher - the f-ing rear view mirror would block 50% of the darn windshield.

Is the mirror jointed in 2 places? (most are).

First thing I do in ANY car I own, or borrow: Move the mirror stalk so that it points up at the roof. THEN adjust the tilt of the mirror from there.

This puts the mirror housing up against the windshield header (or headliner), where it SHOULD be.

Many manufacturers are putting the damn mirror too low on the windshield. At a 4-way stop, a car can easily disappear behind the blind spot created by the mirror. NOT cool.

the rogue is shaped like an egg. they put it low to avoid the ridiculously low sloping roof from shielding the mirror.

I took a long trip the other day which gave me a couple hours to try to get comfortable in these seats.

I have the seat adjusted now where i'm more comfortable on longer trips, it's still not perfect but much better than it was.

I stated before that i had the seat all the way down and all the way back because i'm tall. I noticed that as i raised the seat up it took some of the pressure and discomfort away from my legs, but also pushed me closer to the steering wheel which made me feel cramped.

I now have the seat raised up higher, which pushes it forward, so i leaned the back of the seat back a little further. I also have the lumbar support completely off (as flat as it goes).

It took a long time of playing with seat adjustments to get it set right but it's pretty good now. I tried a whole bunch of different combinations of seat height, steering wheel position, back of seat angle, lumbar, and eventually found a more comfortable seating position.

On road trips with my 2015 rogue I have been getting a sore back(middle back) after only 30 minutes of driving. I am 6'1" and 175lbs. Anyone else experience pain as well?

I had the same problem but had pain where my siatic nerve runs through the thigh. No matter how I adjusted the seat I could not get the pain to go away. I ended up getting a wedge cushion to sit on and that solve the problem. I elevates your rear end so you are sitting more or less level in the seat with you spine aligned. It doesn't interfere with the heated seat and is a life saver. Haven't tried it on a long road trip yet but my drive to work is 39 miles one way. Hope this helps.

Ken
