Ok, I posted here a while (more like 1-2 months ago) when I had my transmission problem with my J30. I dont know what happened, but whenever I try to log onto this site, it wont let me. It says that I either have the wrong password or the administrator wont allow me to log on. So I tried logging on from school, same thing happened. Now the thing is, everytime I want to log on I have to reset my password and use the temp. one or else I can sign on. Can anyone help me out here (moderator?) As for my J30, I got the transmission rebuilt from Atomic. I chose that place for two reasons. The first reason was that they charged me a little under $1500 as opposed to $3000 which I certainly couldnt afford at the time. The second reason was that I checked around and they seem to have a good name. I also found out that Glendale Nissan sends their cars to them for any repairs or maint. The transmission shifts so smooth now. It did not even shift like this when I bought the car. Its like your driving on water. I have a 12 month/12K mile warranty. For those of you who want to know what I got changed or rebuilt, let me know and I will post it here. I was so happy to drive when I got it back. It was in the shop for a few days and I was missing it :(

Now, I think I will have to save some cash for my exahust. Whenever I start the care, I can hear a little "rustle" or notice the air leak from the exhaust. My question is, how much should I be looking at to get it fixed or a new one. Should I look into getting a performance exhaust? I will take it to a place called Maximum Automotive in Naperville and they will check it out. I was also thinking about converting it to a dual exhaust. Any ideas? Please let me know.

I took pictures of my car the other day after I washed it. It looked so nice. I will get them developed and scan them and post them up here.

One last thing I want to say is that thanks to everyone who helped me when I had questions. I found this site very useful with tons of info and ideas. I wish I can access and log on to this site easily without having problems.

Take care everyone...later.

The J30 alredy has a dual exhaust. The dual pipes only join up at the end resonator. The buzzing is almost certainly due to heat shields. Either tighten them up somehow or take them off. If you take them off be careful about parking on a pile of leaves. The exhaust system is high performance and stainless steel. Should give you years of trouble free service.

Omar, Glad you got the J running again. Sounds like you got a good deal. The shifting so smooth things is what gets me. Mine shifted TOO smooth before the transmission was fixed. Now it shifts in to gear stronger and quicker then before. The lack of slipping on the new transmission makes it not as smooth, but whatever it's great. What ATF did you use?

I paid $2800 for my A/T work. It's a rebuild, but the best deal vs quality parts and work in town...trust me I looked everywhere. Here's a small list of what I jotted down as he was telling me what was replaced (I'm not a trannsmission person so bear with me)-Planetary Assembly F/R(good writeup on this on howstuffworks.com)-Torque Converter-Master Clutch Plates and Seals-Filter-Radiator flush (where the ATF cooler is)-Pump bushings-Bunch of solenoids-Rear Main Seal (I provided)-Speed Sensor (I provided)-Mobil 1 Syn ATF (I provided)-and got a 3 year warranty out of it.

The rattle is most likely the heat shield like Vimy suggested. You won't get much (if any) performance increase from exhaust mods as Infiniti has already tuned them to near max performance. But if you still want to there's some Borla's that sound REAL nice on it minus the resonator. Once you replace the cats with high flow cats it gets pretty loud.

my '94 factory stainless exhaust is rusting at a couple of the welds, with one small pinhole leak i have found. SS will corrode readily at welded junctures because the effective heat treatment in the Heat Affected Zone during the process of a weld and its subsequent cooling.

i think omar means a true double sided duel-tip muffler setup. (correct me if i am wrong) I think that would make an excellent setup, the bumper would have to be cut just a little bit on the passenger side. Like Mayhem said, highflow cats with the borlas would make for a very nice (loud) system. I will be doing precisely that when mine finally warrants replacement.

anyone have the pt. no's for the borlas or the catco cats?

diamond, i think you had borlas put in, how much did that custom exhaust job set you back? - if you dont mind me asking...

Thanks Mayhem. Everytime I sit in my J, I get this thrill and cant wait to take it out.

Eswift, you are right. Thats what I meant. I want them on both sides. I'm assuming it wont be much for performance (or will be there a gain? If so, how much?) but more for looks. It would look sweet. How much would it cost to do that. I dont think it would be hard since they connect or become one in the end when its under the trunk. I dont want it too loud like those Civics lol. I want it deep, yet a "classy" sound. You guys know what I mean? I would certainly be interested.

Take care. Later...

negligible performance gains. If you added forced induction later, you would see gains propagated fromt he exhaust due to the higher flow requirements from the forced induction.

Its easy to make a 2L engine sound like crap, luckily weve got just shy of 3L, so its not as much of a problem. If you make it exptremely low restriction, it will be very raspy. If you get it right, maybe with an H pipe, you will get a very tuned sounds, (purrs at idle, and growls at accel).

im attempting to attach a sound file of what a VG30DE sounds like with a good exhaust:

change the file name to *.wav and play it on your choice of audio player. I believe this is a B&B catback exhaust on a NA Z32.

i personally have never done exhaust, maybe someone with more experience can fill us in on expected pricing and such...

I'm still researching h-pipes and x-pipes to see if this will cure that raspy sound you mention. It sounds bad arse now at WOT once you get past 3000, but below that with 1/3-3/4 throttle it doesn't sound that great.I "think" that I have the same Borlas as Diamond. Don't remember the part #(can look it up when i get home) but look for the universal 'turbo' model mufflers. there should be an offset intake/outtake piping and 2.5" in size. A good muffler shop could make any muffler fit though, so I shouldn't matter <that> much.

Found it, this should get you pointed in the right direction...if you're interested.http://www.borla.com/uk.turbo/...0.131
