While I had been playing with car audio since '81, it was 1990 that I really started getting into it. Looking through a box, I came across old car audio mags from 1990+ and thought I would herald the installs and products from 1990. Some of you may remember these, the rest of you will scratch your head

Here ya go. 1990 in a nutshell. Fill the back up with speakers and cover it with carpeting. Nothing fancy. No actuators. No neon.

...

Part of the amplifier test. Man, gotta love that PPI!!!

All the old finned amps were not Pro-MOS models. They were also available in black. I don't remember if they called the white models by a special name but the series was called AM IIRC.

Yeah, I guess the AM line is still considered an art series. I usually keep their designation seperate from the A-series (A404, A600, A1200). I actually had two A600's at one point, white and black. The black one was traded away and the white one is currently in for repairs.

I had 2 A1200's and 2 A404 Art Series PPI with the liquid cooling setup running 4 15" Kicker and a gang of boston acoustic highs in my 1989 Mazda B2200 extended cab. Actually had fiberglass doors, kicks and trim panels. I miss the good old days of PPI.

Yeah. Old PPI and SoundStream Reference amps. I had a USAmps hi-current that was awesome as well. I tried Adcom amps when they came out (actually saw one run with a dead short across the outputs), but IMO they didn't compare to the PPI and USAmps I was using at the time.

I had a big *** purple USamps hi current cheater amp. Was rated at 50x2 at 4 ohms but was 1/4 ohm stable and put out stupid power. It had to be about 4 feet long. I remember the little palm tree logo...

I also remember getting my first Clarion Pro Audio 9275 with the jumping dolphins and all. Later got their 9" monitior for my dash and i used to think that was the dopest setup....there is so much cool $hit out now.

I had the smaller purple USAmps which was 25x2. I loved that thing and wish I had never traded it for the Adcoms. Oh well, I traded the Adcoms for the PPI A600 so I was still better off

Yep.

I still think the best mid/high amp ever was the a/d/s PH15 (little brother PH12 was nice too). Reference 500 and 300 series rocked. Friend of mine ran a Ref 500 to the subs (3ea JL 10w6) and two Ref 300's bridged mono for L and R. 100% stereo seperation and it rocked the house.

Man, this thread kind of makes me wish I didn't trade away my A/D/S PQ10 not too long ago.

Oh well, this Fluke multimeter is nice
