Let me first start with my name. My name is Chad and I am in need of some help. I spent the last 2 years in Okinawa practicing my drifting style and now I find myself in San Diego. My last car was a ’94 Nissan 180SX type X with a few upgrades. I competed in 2 small time competitions and got my name and picture in “Quick” magazine. I was looking for some guidance on how I can get my name out there and get myself behind the wheel of a car. I was at the last D1 comp and was disappointed with the quality from the USA and believe that with some help I can change that. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions please let me know and I will get back to you ASAP.

Wow thats quite a ballzey statement huh, im sure your hardcore 2 years will be on par with many D1 drivers with nearly a decade under their belt, and there have already been a few guys with Experience in japan come do really well like Daijiro Yoshihara. Ive seen a lot of Oki drifters with more experience time than you and im not very impressed either. Dont get me wrong though there is some real talent coming from there, and i have had the pleasure to meet one of the craziest drivers ever Bill from an okinawa team called One Way. but there have been a few guys in my area come with their "experience" and throw their weight around and just not perform.

I totally agree. Bill spent 7 years in Japan too. Also you might want to take a ticket and wait in line. Also there are many more people more skilled than what you apperantly seen the US had to offer. Its all politics in the US and you should know that. Its who you know and what kind of money you throw around. Yes, there are the few exceptions. At least you are starting in Cali and not stuck in the Midwest.

Bill was there at the beginning of Oneway with Rob and Darren in the early to mid 90s.

My oneway sticker on my last 240

I have oneway across my rear window and on the front corner of the windshield of my current 240.

fatdaddy was the only one that tried to hook me up when he came out for the drivers search. but hell, maybe you are both right... my "hardcore" 2 years has nothing on others decade. maybe i should "take a ticket". but im not going to.

I understand what you are saying. If you have the money to put into your car, do it. You need to get recognized somehow. You are trying to do what a whole bunch of people are trying to do right now. Good luck and be sure to take a look at the 'ITT we post pics of us drifting' thread and post up some pics or video of yourself drifting.

Start off by not insulting those you will need to work with!!!!!!!!Make all the events you can to showcase your style and ability, them if your that good you will get the help. drfiting is getting bigger here, but, right now good rides and money is hard to find.. You need friends to help so let your driving do the talking!!!!!

At minimum you will probably need to build some sort of entry level car just to get to events and show people what you can do for awhile untill someone offers you the drivers seat of their car, it takes a lot of faith and trust for someone to turn you loose in their work and investment. It can definatly be done though, if you have the skill and people see it, then you have a good chance of being given a shot.

My aim was not to be "insulting". Just that I was looking for some help. If anyone was offended then all I can say is that I’m sorry. I didn’t mean that all the US drivers need help, just that as a whole there is much room for improvement. The truth does hurt, so get mad at me if you wish. I'm over it.

Good, because there is a world of people ready to bend over or get down on their knees for a sponsor and forget where they came from. I guess thats what Oneway is all about.

I will never forget where I came from and who taught me what I know. OneWay all the way, Rob is the man. I don't really know bill but I have some video of me and him drifting at Nago and I was told a time or two that he chased me around aja. a man that can drift a 86 like that deserves a chance to show off more that most people I see with all the stickers posted on their cars...

Hard work and and stick to it. ALL independent Teams currently pay out of their pockets to DRIFT except tires; loans and 60-80 of hours at work get us there. Most sponsors are still scared of drifting as they can not see where its going. so if you want to make it be prepared for lost of work. Tire companies will get you tires but not much more , except Falken, this year most other are cutting back on sponsoring individual and teams.. send as many letter out as you can and be prepared to have 99% say no, but keep going if you want to make it..
