Back Bumper Support

Does anyone know how much support there is under the back bumper? Could you stand on it? I'll be carrying my kayaks on top this summer and was wondering if I can stand on the bumper while I tie them down.

I wouldn't do it. Although there is a steel bumper reinforcement and some foam, the bumper cover itself is not directly attached to it. You risk cracking the cover or the breaking the attachment points to the fenders by putting that much weight on it.

When I use my roof racks, I stand in one of 2 places:

1) With the front door(s) open, on the doorsills.2) On the rear tires. Don't laugh, I used to do this on my '87 Pathfinder too.

Yeah, definately don't stand on it because it is not secure at all. If you just push on it with your hand the entire back quarter panels move and squeek, I can see the whole thing getting damaged and even partially coming loose if you stood on the bumper. It really isn't very secure.
