Hello All,
I figured I'd update the RB world with what I've been up too... I've had some real rough history with my built RB's in the past... some very unfortunate incidents that resulted in lost built motors, lots of hard work, time and money... The last my car ran was in March of 2009... and I put down the wrenches and said screw cars for a long while. It wasn't until last fall (2011) that I decided to do an RB30 build which in my opinion is the ultimate RB.. RIPZ is part of the inspiration with their bad a** RB30 skyline builds.. so I figured why not. I ended up importing 2 Rb30 short blocks for the AU... only took about 3 months to arrive and huge custom fees later...no the second block is not for sale.. its a spare.
Anyways I'll let the pics speak for themselves, you can find more at the link at the bottom.
Blocks Arrive.. what a headache getting these things here...
Rb26 Head
Stripped and cleaned
Intake and Exhaust Bowls.. start of cleaning off mill imperfections
Cleaned up
Exhaust humps removed
Drilled out oil drains
Rb30 Stripped down to short block
Long Block Assembled
Big b****
Haltech S2000 Wiring Fun...
All Together
Custom Clutch Fan!
Best mod to date btw... what a tight fit though with the 2" Fluidyne... had to trim the fan blades and also reverse the clutch so it fits.. Temps stay a very cool 180-185
Had to cut hood reinforcements
I also made custom pucks that are 7/8" of an inch tall with the McKinney Mounts... pan is about 1/16" of an inch off the cross member... doesn't get any lower.. ground the front cam cover as well.. still have a tiny dent in my hood.. The RB30 is a huge motor I didn't realize its size until I dropped it in.. very big.
I didn't take pics of them, but I made my own sway bar adapters cost me about $15.00 in aluminum and used the mill at work.
I do want to note that the Z32 N/A clutch package pilot bearing does not fit in an rb26 flywheel.. the ID is right the OD is not correct. Luckily my place of work as a lathe I was able to use to machine down the OD and allow for a ~0.006" press fit.. a small oversight that almost put me a week behind. (Very tough to build a car when you work full time and go to college full time.. every weekend moment is very important time)
Polished Up after collecting 2 years of nasty rain water, leaves, acorns... ect ect
I'll work on body alignment when I'm not feeling lazy... the front could be a lot better.. but for now I dont care.
Big Brake Upgrade
DBS 350z track rotors, Carbotech XP8 pads, R33 calipers .. stops very very hard... locks up the brakes extremely easy even at highway speeds if not careful.

Overall I am pretty happy thus far with the swap, the car has about 1000 miles on it, the motor is well broken in and no mechanical issues to speak of as far as the rotating assembly is concerned. I currently have an occasional high rpm break up with the LS1 coils (70k miles on them) as they seem to get heat soaked.. I'm upgrading to LS2 truck coils to hopefully cure this. I am also RPM limited to 6500 right now since I've got a pretty serious boost creep issue. The tial v44 is set to 11 psi with a spring.. however the gate opens at 14 psi and creeps slowly till I hit the boost cut set at 20 psi which happens at 6500... The manifold waste-gate setup is lacking and is not seeing proper flow with the added ~0.3-.4 liters of displacement over my last setup. I'll fix this as well eventually.. even short shifting at 6500 the torque of the RB30 is just awesome.. I'm seeing the gate open about 3900 rpms.

I'd like to thank a few people who made this possible (these arn't sponsors just people who have awesome hearts and extremely helpful), without the help of my loving cousin Cody I'd still be working on this car tonight, its tough to do everything yourself and an extra set of hands are priceless... Howard at Boardman Engine, Kyle@Dei-Pro Tuning, my machinist buddy Matt (excellent crank work), John Zuz for helping me get my Rb25 manifold to work on a 26 head. Thank you all.
Hope you enjoy, nothing like the scream of an RB.. its nice just to drive the stupid girl again.
