B16 Video Receiver Install

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

I just won a free Pioneer AVH head unit! Double-din dvd, nice little unit. Gonna install it into my 2008 Sentra. Issue is...as many regular decks that I have install, I have never done a video receiver like this. I would really like to do the install proper, which means actually wiring the parking brake lockout correctly NOT DOING A BYPASS. I don't plan on ever playing video while moving and I don't want to dig holes or install a switch just to 'hack' the unit to play. Since I have no clue how I go about wiring into the parking brake (or the reverse signal for that matter), I was hoping someone could either explain where it needs to go or point me to a good resource for this since everything I have found is only a bypass install...which I don't want.

Congrats on the stereo win! Do none of the bypass install articles indicate how the wiring should be prior to the bypass? Meaning can you not work backwards?

Unfortunatly no. I have looked all over youtube, and the nets. seen tutorials for the unit, the car, the unit and the car, but every one of them is apparently a homebrew hero and all of them do a bypass. The best solution I have found thus far is to actually wire it into the Illumination line. That way I can just turn my lights on and off and it will trip the ground same as a bypass without needing an extra switch. This is still less than ideal. As much as I would hate to pay for it (between my own pride and skills), I may need a pro to do it unless I can find the right resource :/

Welp, I figured it out. It looks like there is a bypass adapter you can install behind the head unit that hooks right in with the existing wiring harness. It is basically a relay. It triggers the ground that the safety looks for and then holds it. I still don't plan on watching while I'm driving but I am glad there was a simple solution that didn't require some half-a** hack and a random hole and switch somewhere in my console. You can get them from most audio shops or amazon. Problem handled :)
