B16 Sentra Brake squeeks in reverse normal?

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Hey guys, I have about 45K miles on the car and felt that it's time to get my brakes checked out. My dad recommended me to take the car to Midas as they are "suppose to have a good reputation." They said I had 10% of padding left so I let them replace the front brake pads and clean the dust off the rear. I also let them do an oil change and the total was about $335. However, when I put the car in reverse and then step on the brake, I will hear a high pitch squeak sound. So I gave the new brake pads about a week but each time I'm backing out of the driveway or parking spot, I head that loud sound. I brought the car back to Midas to look and they said that it's normal as the rotors rust up overnight. After awhile when you brake, the pads will clean it off but the rust will stick to the pads which causes that loud sound. For the past 3.5 years, I didn't have this sound at all. It only started happening about when I reached about 44K miles which is the reason I figured to get the brakes checked out.

So I am wondering, do all 2007 Sentras have this reverse sound issue?

In addition, they chipped one of my new rims and the caliper paint. While I understand it's very minor damage, I'm pretty upset about it because these rims are just 1 month old and I spent a lot of time doing the calipers... It's like I paid them for service to receive damage on my car and the brake sound problem was not fixed..... One other thing, there's this metal piece in the caliper that is sticking out. From looking at my previous pictures, that piece seemed that it should be folded in. Can someone help me confirm this? The Midas manager Paul again claims it should be that way.... Are the calipers not fasten completely and would it be a safety issue?

They claim that it was rock damage for the caliper and accused me of hitting a curb for the rim..... I'm like if I hit a curb, why is the damage up so high on the spoke near the lug holes and not at the bottom of the lip? I know I did not hit a curb because I only drove to work & back home that week. They won't take responsibility for the damage so I'm going to call up Midas Corp. But before I do so, I just wanted to know if that brake sound is normal for the B16 Sentras 2007 - 2010?

"Midas" and "good reputation" in the same sentence sounds about as reasonable as "McDonald's" and "low cholesterol."

I learned my lesson a while ago and I document everything on video before I go to any shop. Fighting with corporate is probably your best bet. As cut and dry as it seems to be, it's never that simple. It's ridiculously hard to actually prove that they caused the damage, no matter how obvious it is that it couldn't have happened how they said. The best chance of getting it remedied is them realizing they will be publicly made to look bad and lose significant business by not making it right.

When did you notice the "damage"? Not a surprise at all that the paint chipped off of your calipers. It looks like you didn't even take them off to paint them. Couldn't imagine that paint holding up very long. That's like someone with spraypainted interior panels getting their car detailed and while the detailer is wiping down the panels the crappy paint peels off. Get what i'm saying.

I'm not sure how they would have chipped your rim but i'm certain they have cameras. If anything request that corporate reviews the tapes and sees if the wheel was dropped or a tool hit it etc...

For the rims, I noticed it as soon as I got home. There was some excess grease on the rims that I wiped off. The parts that didn't wipe off and were indented were the chipped marks. I hope they have cameras. Most likely when they where using a tool to delug the rims, they must have accidentally hit the spokes and you can see that they left a nasty rash in one of the lug holes.... The paint I did them myself. Had 5 layers of metal cast ground, 5 layers of metallic orange, and 6 layers of clear coat. From the instructions, on a Lexus forum, the other guy did the paint job in 2005 and it still looks good as new. While I'm upset about the caliper paint chips, I am able to mix the colors and touch it up. I'm more upset about the new expensive 18" Enkei rims I bought fairly recently..... That I won't be able to fix myself.... It needs to be surfaced or have the rim replaced.

Yes I learned my lesson too and from now on, I will have the manager and I inspect the car and document any prior damage before going to a shop so that there will be no new damage. Yea, I'll try to talk to Midas Corp and if they can't help, a user from the Allsentra forum suggested that I contact the BBB, Better Business Bureau and open a case with them.

Definitely keep this thread updated on any an all happenings with this.

I am pretty sure you can open a case or at least file a complaint against the business.

Mine squeaks too but only when you first drive it, after a couple minutes of either warming up or hitting the brake pedal a few times it's gone and sounds normal. I think it's probably just moisture or the slight rust build-up on the rotors that's causing it - on mine that is, not sure if gforever's problem is the same.

Hey Faja and TopFlight_Nissan, my brakes before the service had a little squeak in the morning. But like Faja, it goes away. But after the Midas brake job, it's so freaking loud now. I can hear it with the radio on at volume level 8 & windows up. And the worst thing is it's not just the morning but even when I go out to lunch or after work. It is everytime I step on the brake when going in reverse. Today I parked at the top floor of the garage so the car is under the sun which should dry out any moisture but the sound is still apparent.

Anyways, I took the car over to the Clay Nissan dealer today and they told me that the metal piece should not be sticking out of the caliper and is most likely causing the sound. I then checked with my colleague's Sentra and see that the metal clip should be folded in and not sticking out. At the end of the work day, my friend who is very knowledgeable on cars took a look and heard the sound as I showed him while backing up slowly. He told me that Midas really messed it up and it definitely should not be giving off such a loud sound. He said I need to get the brake pad job redone....

Thanks Breadbox, yes I opened a case with Midas Corp already. If I don't hear from them soon, I will escalate the case to the BBB, Better Business Bureau and any agencies that will help consumers. I will also post my experience all over local review sites like Yelp to warn others about this terrible service. I tried to give the service manager a chance to correct the problem but the manager doesn't even attempt to look at it and refuses to correct the problem as well as denying the damage. Until Midas Corp can fix up the mess caused by one of their service centers, I highly advise against taking your vehicle to any Midas shops. Not only will you get poor service, the service may not be done properly, and you risk getting your vehicle damaged.

Well, I've been trying calling Midas Corp & the local rep all day yesterday, sent e-mails, and left a couple voicemails. I told them to return my call by the end of the day today with an update but still haven't heard from anyone. What horrible customer service. Perhaps Midas is a fraud company after all. I have now opened up a case with the BBB. Let's hope they can help me out....
