My Sentra's idle rpms drop out of gear and moving when the car is making a turn greater than 30 degrees or when I apply the brakes during said turn. It drops to about 4-500 rpms and shakes pretty bad. I have also noticed that when I accelerate, the engine hesitates at first, then picks up like normal after it gets up a bit. These problems also seem to be more noticeable when the engine is colder.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be? I have so far replaced the valve cover gasket because of the obvious amount of oil on the outside of the head and block, several hoses that were in need as well as clamps, checked all the reachable vacuum hoses with starter fluid for leaks, and I have cleaned the throttle body as well.

Steering issue is likely the steering pressure switch (kicks up idle when pressure increases, such as when turning).

Braking issue sounds like a vacuum hose problem... Starter fluid works to diagnose leaks round the manuifold, but not always in vac hoses.

Start by replacing ALL vac hoses (they're cheap), and check the one-way valve in the brake booster line.

Each will exacerbate the other, if you think about it.

Where is the one-way valve usually located?

Also, steering pressure switch? I am not familiar with this device...

In the brake booster hose, typically mounted on the firewall, runs between the brake booster and the manifold.

On your high-pressure steering line, there's a fitting mid-line with 1 or 2 wires. Kicks up the idle to compensate for the little extra load on the engine from the PS pulley and pump.

Looks like:

I'll check that stuff out tonight and get back to this thread. Thanks, Greg. I have a game plan now.

I found another cracked hose while exploring, but I cannot find the pressure switch. I can't start the motor because of the other problem I'm having, please check the new thread!!

Did you download the FSM?

Yeah, but I can't find the FSM that is SE-R B13 specific...

ALL they have anywhere is the generic Nissan B13, B14 (including the evil egg NX variant) and N14 manual. I know they make it, cause I've seen the others with their own and the B13's SR20 is so different from the other motor kinds offered in the other chassis; the B14 SR is light years ahead in terms of hose and wire routing for one...

Also, the idle is till a little rough. All the hoses have been checked as well as the clamps.

I'm guessing the electrical is the issue again. I need a grounding kit I think... Will check again tomorrow.
Edit: I really need to lay off the sauce.

You don't need a grounding kit.

Maybe cleaning / re-securing existing grounds.

IACV could need cleaning as well. Does idle still drop precipitously during standstill turns?

Yeah, the idle still drops during turns and when the brakes are pressed medium to hard.

I wish the FSM would tell me where to find the FICD/AAV so I can do some electrical testing...
