b13 oem brake pad material and replacement recommendations ?

A great resource for Nissan Sentra, Infiniti G20, 200sx, Pulsar, NX1600, NX2000, Tsuru, Primera and Sunny owners.

Hi I have a 1992 b13 SE-R and awhile back I had the brake pads replaced just with cheapy organics by Midas and am finding the stopping power quite lacking.

So I am considering purchasing new pads and was wondering if anyone knows what the OEM brake pad material is?

Also any recommendations on brand / type of pads would be awesome.

I was considering the "Raybestos Raymold Brake Pads" as they are semi-metallic, inexpensive, made in the USA, and in stock at my local Kragen. I have also heard good things about these pads from my RX-7 friends (I also have an RX-7 but usually get ceramic brake pads as that was the OEM material). Though I am wary of the semi-metallic nature, hence me asking.

Thanks in advance for any answers or suggestions!

I have Hawk HPS, which I'm pretty sure are semi-metallic and have had zero issues. Not too much dust and rare squeaks as well, so I wouldn't be too worried about a semi-metallic, especially if others have used them with good results.

Midas/any other cheapo organic is a bad way to go in general. I've heard some scary stories about them.

Thanks for the suggestion, do you know where I could find those for the b13 SE-R? I did a quick ebaymotors search for "sentra hawk hps" with very few results, and those were all for 2000+ Sentras.

Yeah I just did the Midas thing because the brakes needed to be replaced soon and I wasn't going to be driving it much longer. Its been a couple of years from when I did that, to me driving it again now.

Tirerack has them, but I don't see any for your car. They do have a couple of ceramic options and one that's a direct OEM replacement. I'd trust Tirerack to not carry crappy parts.

I would suggest upgrading to the NX2000 brakes in the front and running some carbotech pads if you really want some stopping power.

I'm not really looking to replace calipers/rotors/pads, just the pads.

Possibly in the future if I can find a mix of internal engine upgrades that I can still pass a sniffer test on (in California).

A good cat converter and you ought to pass a sniffer anywhere.
