Ok, I installed the shifter just like it said, followed the instructions to the dot, and I was very happy about it, till I got on the car and reved it to 5k in 1st gear and heard that damn thing vibrate like a tunning fork. It was pretty bad and pretty loud. Now after driving the car for a while I notice that it's much louder in the car, and its all comming from the shifter area. Under slowing down in gear I can hear the gears much louder and all. The shifter seems to be working fine, I have no problems there but the rattle under hard acceleration that just gets worse when you get up in the RPM's. I called B&M and finally after being on hold for a half hour the dude said it's normal, I'm skeptical about that though. Anybody else with that problem?

BTW: I did a search and didn't find anything that would solidly make any case that this is normal or a problem. So dont tell me to click the search button, cause you'd be wasting more space on this server then me.

Had you searched, you would have found a TON of reviews of this shifter making noises.

Yep, it's normal. That's what you get with the B&M shifter.

Here are a couple of threads from THIS forum talking about the B&M shifter rattling.

thread 1

thread 2

thread 3 another

And I quote from that one "my B&M shifter rattles like crazy at high RPMs," and in the same thread "Mine does the same."

Oh, thats just a few. I didn't bother looking up ALL of them.

Like i said very vague. Anyways this 1st guy in the thread was ripping his car apart trying to find it and it didnt seem like it was finished, Other ones werent even on the subject of B&M and problems so I skipped those. No point in trying to go over every post and see if your question gets answered. Cause 90% of the time it doesn't. I just want to know do you have a B&M short shifter??? If you do then it makes me feel better that the rattle is normal case closed, if you don't then I'd just rather wait till somebody that has one will answer the post.

No kidding, I answered your post within minutes. It's normal. Three people have said it personally, and I know it's been said in those threads. You want us to bring some other cars with it and show you???

yes it rattles, if you dont like it, sell it to me, I know plenty of people that will tollerate the noise of the B+M for such a precise shifter....

its metal-on-metal design man, much like racing shifters, its gonna make some noise if your gears have any "walk".-chet

It does make noise, and I can hear my gears better, but Im not the type of person that would sacrifice performance for comfort. It's very unusual it sounds like its not supposed to do it. I gotta get in touch with a friend of my that has one.

Mine rattles like a mofo too... but it don't bother me, it's kinda like a shift light but just a shift sound. Anyway, the way the B&M feels, I'd deal with the noise any day.

Myabe I'm lucky (doubt it) or maybe I did something differently, but mine does not rattle at all, maybe my exhaust is too loud to hear it, i don't know. I'd keep it even if it did rattle. it's the nicest, most precise shifter I have ever felt in any car.

Someone said in a forum somewhere that B&M made a change to the shifter to help alleviate this problem. Try calling them and asking is there is a "2nd Gen" version and how you can tell which is which.
