Ok well I installed it today probably took me about a hour if that, at first i was fliping through the instructions and it showed were I had to file .125" off of a bracket in order to get reverse to engage and I was a little worried but it wasnt all that much. But after everything went in and working I was amazed by how short the throws were. The first time messing with it i couldnt get it from 1st to neutral without hitting 2nd it was funny.

Tools Required10mm socket12mm socketsocket wrenchextension4mm hex wrenchfilejack and jackstands or liftpliers x2

Im going to go through a quick write up of the install but since i dont have any pics its not going to be detailed prolly.

1st. Remove the console covering the shift lever. Its very simple there are a few clips along the outside holding it in so just lift from the end next to the cupholder and it should all come out simply. And release the plugs on the back

2nd. If you have never removed the shiftknob this part is tricky and i ruined my factory knob getting it off but was ok with it cause i had a nismo knob as well. Your going to have to have a pair of pliers holding the shift rod and one holding the knob and turn the knob clockwise without turning the actual rod.

3rd Once removed you can pull the console peice out and remove the 4 10mm screws holding the rubber boot on. and remove the peice. after removing that boot you have another one that just sits over a bracket remove that as well. then the 3 10mm bolts under the 2nd cover.

4th. If at this time you dont have the car lifted lift it so you can get under it. You are going to have to get under the car where your working and remove a soft rubber cover covering the shift linkage and remove the 12mm bolt there ( the nut is fixed so no need to hold it )

5th Once the linkage is apart everything should pop apart. Remove the factory shifter and keep the spring and metal bracket. the rest of it you wont use.

6th Next is the iffy part. After everything is out you will see a cup where the factory shifter say and a square hole going down to the linkage. You are going to need to file down .125" of the drivers side side of the square hole. .125 isnt all that much so just go at it a little bit. Wipe it out and get all the shavings out. then relube with supplied lube.

7th. Take the new shifter and slide the blue supplied bracket over the shift lever so that the cut out opening is over the hex peg (reverse) on the lever. There is also a sleeve supplied that goes into the bottom of the lever where the linkage connects slide that in at this time as well. Take the old spring and put it in the lubed cup and push the short shifter into the cup making sure the hex peg is facing the passenger side put the other bracket you saved from the old shifter on top of your blue bracket there is a arrow and a raised part of the bracket this is to allow reverse to go under. This should be on the passenger side. now screw down with the hex bolts. (DO NOT TIGHTEN ALL THE WAY AT THIS TIME)

8th Time to go back underneath and reinstall your linkage and rubber cover. Ensure the sleeve did not come out when you pushed the rod through the hole.

9th After that go back up top and check to make sure you can engage smoothly all 6gears and reveres. You should have to push down for reverse to engage just like before. If all gears can be engaged includeing reverse put the car into 6th and slide the top bracket over so that the reverse peg is riding the side of the bracket. Tighten all the way down now.

10th. Put back the boot covering the 3 hex bolts and the bigger rubber covering with the 4 10mm bolts. Reinstall your console making sure to plug back in your switches and install shift knob and you should be done.

Check all your gears again and enjoy.

Overall I think it was a very easy install. I love the results the shifting is smooth and quick. NOW WHERE IS MY NEW TITLE!!!

That was not the intent at all. The norm on NICO is if you post a how-to for members, you get a custom title. While in this case one had already been done, it is kinda difficult to find since it is not listed on the G35 site. So, how about a custom title for your efforts?

If I would have added it to the G site it would have been easier to find. Nevertheless, you stepped up to help the community and deserve something for it, thus the custom title offer still stands

I was aware you were just giving me a hard time

Hey Whizzer....

How about you go through and find all the How-To's we have for the G (and the Z where they are applicable) and get those links to me? I will go ahead and create a How-To link on g35club.org with that information. Having it readily accessible would probably help a number of members in researching things.

Trust me...you don't want the mods coming up with a title for you

How about

"short shifted"

"knob gobbler"

"Imaknob"

anyone else can chime in here..
