alright, thanks for the info. hopefully its the same threads. im keeping my leather knob from my last car, so ill try it out on the shifter before cutting anything.

but the b&m's construction is solid right? itd suck if i went to re-tap a hollow one like the stock shifters are...

i've tried a lot of s13 shifters and the b&m exceeds the rest by far

I heard C's is good, but it's been discontinued and length is same as stock. There's no competitor out there now. B&M all the way.

Woo, Sorry for not getting back to you. I have been quite busy with my car. I would think it is.... I have never cut one apart but I don't think they would be hollow. I see the question has already been answered though so you don't even have to worry about it.

OH yes....

Its like, If megan made turbos and you compared them with HKS or Garret.

B&M quality is better than megan. B&m has the harder shifter spring to make it feel more solid that the megan. I got a friend that put 50k plus miles on it and its still going.

the megan does work and does its job for half the price of b&m

However if money is no problem then I would recommend b&m over megan.

I dont see where you all are getting at megan and b&m being the same.... They are not the same at all.

I just called up Enjuku Racing and was going to buy the b&m shifter but they recomended that I buy the megan v2 shifter. He told me that the build and the feel was identical. So for under the price of the b&m i got a megan sts and a peakperformance trans bushing, I also got a $10 nico club discount

Where did you get the bushing from?

Okay, sorry to ask a stupid question. But where does the little spring for the b&m shifter go?

I got both parts from enjuku. I have bought all my stuff threw them so farn via phone. They have good shipping, and awsome customer service phone or email. I did my alignment and got all their drift specs, I was surprised that they would do that.

Just ordered mine, I thought about buying a Megan V2 until I drove my buddies 13 with a B&M and I fell in love.

I was thinking about creating a new thread, but I think I can ask here. I've been using B&M shifter for several months now and I just love it. Today, I saw a Miata and its shifter was really short. I wonder if it's possible to cut a shifter somewhere in the middle like an inch and weld it back. To me, it's just a little too long. I know I'll loose some leverage, but is it going to be that bad? Anyone?

I cut the threaded part off mine. I made my own shift handle and did not want the threads. I have had no issues. I do recommend a heavy knob if you go shorter.

Well I have the B&M short shifter to and I love it its the best thing I could have bought as far as comfort goes it shifts great sometimes I miss gears because it feels so easy to shift that I don't pay attention to where im shifting but I recommend to anyone to get it you won't regret it and as far as knobs go I recommend you get a nismo leather shift knob its touches my shift boot and its looks and feels great and that pic of that metal knob looks long as hell mine is no where near that long.

I had a metal shift knob and it got very hot. IAlso I put the B&M in a 1990 240sx and it shifts very smooth........it's easier.

I've had mine for as long as the date says in my sig. Easily one of the best modifications I've done to the car.

Over the years, it has gotten easier to shift than when it was new.

I still get major compliments from friends who drive my car for the first time. They've never felt a throw so short before.

Also, I didn't get a knob with mine either.

I've toyed with the idea of purchasing that heavy metal looking knob. You know the one that is about the length of the stock knob, but it's wider at the top than it's at the bottom, it's also angular and I think it comes in different colors. The problem is I can't justify purchasing something without needing it.

Anyone know the one I'm talking about?

No one has answered my question yet. This is my plan. I'm trying to cut about an inch(or inch and a half) here and weld it back. Is this stupid idea or worth give it a try? If no one knows, I'll do it and let you guys know.

Dude, that is for you to decide. I cut mine short and have had no problems. You are cutting and welding, so if you can make it look good, it should not be an issue.

It will require more force to shift...........law of physics.

Yes, I'm aware of that. I'll loose some leverage, so it'll definitely require more force, but I think I can handle it. I called B&M and asked if they sell only the shifter unit which I'm going to cut, but they said no. Alright, I'll go ahead and do this mod and see what happens.

It also puts more pressure on your contact points (fingers and hand).

I just bought a stainless steel shifter for 350Z of ebay. Has an aluminum mounting bracket. I think I'll probably switch the knob with the SE-R knob though.
