Hi, I'm a new owner. I'm restoring a 1990 Nissan 300ZX 2+2 NA. The engine is in mint condition, it was well maintained, and it has 67000 miles on it. I am in the process of choosing an exhaust system. Price doesn't matter, all i'm worried about is quality, sound, and power. Right now, it's tied at:

Labree Catback:
Resonated Mid Section
Mid Section Style: X-Pipe
Stainless Steel Piping
Size: 2.25" (Or should i go with 2.5"?)
Muffler Tip: Quad Round
Total Price: $1,398

B&B Catback:
Resonated Mid Section
Mid Section Style: X-Pipe
Polished 304 Stainless Steel
Size: 2.5" Piping
Muffler Tip: Quad Round
Total Price: $1,095

What about getting a exhaust custom made at an exhaust shop? It'll be much cheaper i think, not only that but u can ask them to try to get it how u want it to sound as well. U should probably get a set of headers as well if money is not an issue! Im sure ur car will sound alot better with headers and a full exhaust system.

Also if u only want B&B or Labree i suggest getting resonators since its an NA. It'll be LOUD as hell, i remember i had a set of borla's like 5 years ago, thing was too loud for my taste.

No resonators can get pretty loud, and x-pipe or an h-pipe will help some, but compared to stock, they are loud. Especially when you have over-sized headers, test pipes, removed cats, removed resonators, removed stock mufflers, and just installed aftermarket mufflers, you really get a lot of flow, and minimum dampening! as well as getting a sulfer smell from deleting the cats.

I agree with pnwz32. Have you looked into custom exhaust? I did mine myself at a shop, so I can't account for the price of labor time, but the previous owner put magnaflow mufflers on, so I just bought some headers, and custom bent 2.5 inch pipes, and then welded some flanges on so they would bolt to the headers, welded the mufflers on, and went down the road! An added bonus was that I was able to route the pipes wherever I wanted, so I made sure to pipe them wide enough that I wouldn't have to remove the exhaust to remove or install the driveshaft!

Again, I would highly recommend some quality resonators! I love the sound of my exhaust, but it sounds like I'm driving a track car down the road (SO LOUD!) Thing Idle's like a cam'd v8 lol.

My whole setup ran me less than $100 (headers, piping, bolts, flanges, and hangers). Now, that's accounting that I got a discount on the materials and bolts and such, and I re-used the magnaflow mufflers the previous owner used, I didn't have resonators, and the headers I bought were pretty cheap (under $300). But if you buy a couple quality mufflers for $100 each, and quality resonators for $100 each. Piping for $100 or so, and have a shop make you some headers and put the system together for you, I bet you could still come out under $1,000 and have something unique, and tuned for your specific car and mods.
