I think AIM lets you open up multiple AIMS on different computers now.

I get booted so often, not sure why. Anyways, I log back on and it tells me that I'm logged in at multiple locations. Meaning it is possible. You could also have different SN's and put up away messages at the ones you're not at. Yaknow, AZinhisboxersinbedroom and AZattheworkcompdontbugmeunlessabsolutelynecessary, etc...
