I've tried to get your attention in some other threads, but I guess you haven't noticed, so I resorted to starting another thread. I was going to tell you I emailed you about my insurance situation, because you told me to. So, I did and have not gotten a responce. I want some help if you have any advice, so please email me!

Delete this thread after you read it, too please :)

I was looking for the same advice I gave another member - See below.

Sorry for the delay buddy - I don't hate you. :D

"Search autotrader.com for a 240 with similar miles and condition, as well as the classifieds and the local Infiniti dealers.... Select the 3 highest-priced you can find, and submit them with a letter stating you'll need to get $XXX amount to replace your current car. Stick to your guns - You can usually get the offer bumped up by a grand or more."

I may be the other member Greg is talking about. I got my insurance company up about 1000 dollars from their initial offer. The rub is that eventually (and by eventually I mean in a year or two) they will make it back up in increased premiums.

A good start is to go to Autotrader and search for your year nationwide (if your car has high miles) and use that average which is given by autotrader. If your miles are below average, search all years in your generation at your milage and use that average price. That way you'll get the highest average. Do not let them compile an average - it will not be to your advantage.

Thanks for the advice. I already searched autotrader and found 2 '95's with close to my mileage for between 8500 and 9000. I found a '96 with close to my mileage for 8000, also. This is a good idea guys :) So what did you say to the insurance when you were trying to get more money? Did you just walk in, say I found some cars that are relatively the same as mine for sew-n-sew price and then just see what their reaction was??

Your policy with your provider entitles you to fair market value - if they have already offered a settlement, ask how they determined FMV. If they have not present your evidence of what the FMV is. They WILL low ball you. Be persistent. You cannot, and should not rely on the highest prices you can find; try to find numerous vehicles similar to yours and find a true average. Also keep in mind what you are looking at is sale price as opposed to price of sale. Good luck.

So basically just tell them their price isnt' high enough, because these other cars on the market are going for much much more? And just kinda quiz them on how they came up with their price and stuff I guess? I will try man.

The statement you need to make is, "I cannot replace my car with a like vehicle for the amount you are offering."

They'll capitulate before too long - It's only a G or 2, but it's their job to keep the payout as low as possible.

If all else fails, call an attorney - They'll draft a formal demand letter for cheap - But it shouldn't come to that.

Keep us posted, Ben. We're right behind you.
