Azenis are excellent performing tires, but are weak on tread life. Perfect for what they are designed to do... which is... grip well, sacrificing wallet and longevity in the meantime.

They aren't exactly cheap, so you spend more dollars initially. Then, they wear out rather quickly, as they are meant to.

Add those two factors together, and you see why tire maintenance/replacement costs nearly double if you buy a serious dry performance tire such as this Falken tire.

So, if initial cost isn't an issue, and you don't mind coughing up the dough for frequent tire replacement, then by all means do it. You won't be disappointed <at all>, as these tires tend to stick like glue in dry conditions.

The Falken Ziex is a good all weather tire. I am really happy with the way they are working out on my 240.

Ziex are crap compared to the Azenis ... I know this from experience.

Get the Falkens you'll love them and they don't wear down that fast to be honest.

Compared to what, though?

I say the total cost of tire maintenance doubles with ultra sticky rubber, because grip levels are enhanced, so we push harder in turns, offramps, what have you... then you're back at the tire shop, wondering why the hell did these tires wear so quickly..... compared to other tires you've used in the past. Better to at least know what you're getting into, IMHO.

And yes, Azenis>Ziex, but the Ziex isn't crap either, compared to other tires of the same size. As some Infiniti guys are finding out, the Falken Ziex is a good alternative to some model Yoks and plus-sized Kumho's, on their big cars.

COmparable tires I am also considering are Yokohama AVS ES100 and Yokohama AVS dB. How long do you think these will last? At least a year on mostly street driving? That is all that I ask froma tire is one good year...

My driving style is aggressive when I so choose, but 70% of the time, I drive like someone double my age with a luxury car.

I was refering to a good Daily driver tire. Which is why I said all weather. I wouldn't want them over the azenis tires for auto crossing, but they are really nice tires.

It's all a sacrifice really... handling vs. life.

I think it's safe to say I choose handling.

I am in no way downing the azenis. Lots of people at the auto rss love them. I want a set for my stock rims so I can swap them out when I autocross. I drive 45+ mile nearly 5 days a week and azenis would just completly wear out to quick. So chose to go with a good all weather performance tire. Also they are really well priced.

I live on the bus route to get to class, and I drive to work sometimes so I put mabye 100 miles a week on my car in the most extreme weeks. Will Azeins be up to this kind of life? Once again, my only requirement is that they will last upward of a year.

if your not an agressive, and I do mean really agressive driver, you're wastiung your money an the azenis, plain and simple.

also, the axenis wet traction is less-than-stellar. ANy serious downour or running water, they slip....

:/

choose the toire for what you do with it. If you were autocrossing often, and drove at 7/10 to 10/10ths most of the time(more than 50%) I would say the azenis would be fine, but since you drive regularly 70% of the time, both money and safety in the rain are going to be comrpomised.

the es100 would be a better choice for ya.-chet

nothing to do with azenis or even falkens but...

recently i drove my brothers celica which has the Eagle F1s (or something like that?) and i really like the way they felt, they had really good grip and theyre supposed to last a very long time, theyre pretty expensive though, anybody else heard anything else on them??

Chet,

In all fairness the Azenis aren't that bad in wet weather. Standing water and torrential downfalls are bad, but wet roads aren't bad at all.

And you know my setup and my driving methods... I am far surprised at the level of grip the Azenis offer in wet conditions.

my buddy has Eagle F1-GSD3's on his '89 5.0 and they HOOK! very nice tires in the rain too (ive ridden with him quite a few times in both wet/dry conditions) but they do wear pretty fast... so far my tire of choice in cars i've ridden in are the Yokahoma AVS ES100s and the Azenis...but i would pick the ES100s over the Azenis for the weather around here.
