I'm just about to order my 300zx front and rear brake upgrade parts, but need some advice on which pads are better, and which choice would be better for me... now, If i get the Axxis pads (correct me if i'm wrong guys) then I won't need to buy the shim kit from courtesyparts.com for 100 bux...($50 front, $50 rear).. but if I buy the Hawk HPS's which I'd rather buy than the Axxis's, than I would have to dish out the 100 bux for the hardware shim kits right?? which choice would you guys make here??? I would have to pay $230 for the HAWK HPS's and shims too, or about $100 for Axxis Ultimates which come with the shims on them...whatcha guys think?? dre

i had HPSs on my S13 (stock brakes, not z32) and never used a shim. i want to know the answer too because i'm going to upgrade to z32 brakes soon.

which shim are you refering too? i don't think they are necessary. you can probably get them a lot cheaper from autozone or something.

Dude.

Email me, I have a hookup on Hawk, and I prefer them over the Metal Masters anyway.

And I use no shims.

I believe Hawk pads come with shims already attached as well.

I've got Hawk HPS (just on regular S13 calipers) and love 'em. Not too dusty, not too noisy, decent cold performance and it's plenty of brake pad for errrr... "spirited driving".

And, at least for the S13, the shims are already glued to the pads. The only extra hardware I used was shim covers and the brass "slider" things.

I;ve had both now. THe Hawks have built-in shims. I like my hawks better than the MM, honestly. I get better feel from them.

Side note:
