Axxis Brake Question

I searched but didn't really get to see what I was looking for. A couple people said they were all right but I wanted to hear from people that were running them themselves. Does any have these and have had them installed for a while? If you do, how do you like them? I just want to upgrade enough without having to do z32 brakes. Thanks for the input.

From what I read and heard from experienced people that do brakes for a leaving, often recommend Hawk, I have them and they work grate, firm pedal feel, never over heat, last for a long time, little squeaking thou. I would recommend them.

Probably not the answer you were looking for.

I have Axxis MM pads and I love em. I also have Brembo blanks and Goodridge SS lines. The pads have great fade resistance and a little squeaking.

The MM compound maintains the friction to a higher temperature [about >150-200F higher or at most 800F].......this is offset by lower friction below 100F. You just trade some cold for improved hot performance!

A single stop from 60 mph only heats the rotors to 150F and the pads surface to 250F.

All pad compound changes can do is shift the point of optimum friction................not improve on oem friction in the normal 100F-600F range.

Careful of street ceramic compounds they fall off the cliff around 600F vs racing ceramic which don't stop below 300F.

The only way to improve the TOTAL braking is to increase the heat sinking ability of the rotor [greater diameter for greater leverage and thicker heavier for more storage capacity---slower rise].

I have the MM pads on my G35. The cold braking is noticeable, but with the loss in cold braking it is actually good for the G, as it eliminate the jerkiness in around town stops and still stops better than most cars.

but you do have to warm them on off ramps on cool days or they will leave you a little breathless.

Definitely a good track brake pad. I have the Motul 600 with these and have had to bleed them a couple times but I am hard on my pads.

Unnderstand that the liability [cold braking] makes it impossible for factory to supply such pads for the street. Factory cars have to work in Alaska and Canada.......as well as Southern Texas.

Same problem with tires.

hey Q, I understand about the greater diameter and what not, but I drove Ben's s14 with the z32 brakes up front and I didn't like the pedal feel, I think its due to the size of the master cylinder or the balck tub its mounted on. Does the Z32 master cylinder directly bolt on where the normal s14 does?

There is an ideal relationship between pedal ratio, mastercylinder piston size, and caliper pistons diameter.

You always trust the factory to match these components.

Most Nissan mastercylinder bolt to the vacuum booster....universal fit here at least in older cars.......whether you have to change the hard lines is another matter.

So its gonna be trial and error pretty much, unless I find someone who has tried this already, maybe I should also see if I can fit the vacum booster from a z32 on there also.

Thanks for the great info, I have been researching this a lil' for a while. :)
