ok guys i have the vlsd out of a 96 300z and im swapping it into my 96 240, i know that im supposed to swap out the splined hub shafts with the ones from the j30 but i was wondering if i could just use the complete shafts from the 300z, or is the length different from that of the 240, i thought that the geometry in the rear suspension was similiar if not the same, any who if anyone can elaborate lmk thanks

z32 axles are longer than j30 and 240sx axles. iirc, its like almost an inch longer I think.

lol damn dude, you're making it more complicated than it should be. Why not just get some 5 bolt j30 axles? Its a hell of a lot easier than trying to bust out with some Frankenstein axles.

J30 5 bolt shafts are reasonably easy to find at the junkyard.I personally have 3 sets of them.

ok so i went to the salvage yard today and they had axles for a 95. had to drive 1.5 hrs and they pulled them and they were wrong. identical to my 240 axles! and i asked if there was a build date or vin break and he said anything built 01/94 or prior was different! 01/94 to 97 was the ones that were identical to my stock 240 axles, 3 tangs with two bolts per tang. just so everyone knows this is probably good info, also does anyone know for sure if the earlier yr j30s are the ones that have the 5 bolt axles. i really need to confirm this thanks

I was going to mention that but I thought it was understood that you needed 5 bolt axles.Sorry to hear you did that for nothing. I believe it is the older ones that have the 5 bolts. I'm not sure of the year break down, I just take a peek under the the car before I bust out the tools.

I have uses for the axles that I bought but if I go to the junkyard in the near future, I'll look for a set for you and let you know on this thread. Hope you find a set first because I don't feel like shipping a set lol.

the shipping price on a pair of axles might be more than the actual worth! =X

I'd say just keep searching man. I'm sure theres a bunch of those egg looking j30s out at the junk yards somewhere.
