Good Morning,

Is there any way to reduce the axle-hop on the RWD G37? Tire pressure adjustment, different tires, etc? I know that the real answer is to simply not smoke the tires but the thing hops on dry AND wet pavement. Extra smooth throttle inputs can sometimes keep it from hopping and it doesn't do it in a drift but I would really like to get it dialed out if possible.

Thank you.

Weird...I've never had axle hop in my sedan.

Red, any thoughts?

I do have the 18" wheels as opposed to the 19's. The resonance may be different if you have the 19's. Just a thought...

Is it the VDC or traction control kicking in rather than actual axle hop? I thought only leaf spring suspensions were prone to major axle hop.

I have 18's too...the sport package on a G37 sedan...I believe the same as you. Do you have new tires? I still have the POS OEM tires on mine.

It is so prone to hop that it will even do it with the TC on in some situations. Today, for the first time, it actually did it in 2nd gear with a very light dusting of snow (just whisps blowing accross the cold street)...just very slightly slicker than rain. Could have been the 24 degree temp on the summer tires too because it was so little precipitation.

"Yes", OEM Bridgestone summer tires. 245's on the back with the 18" Enkei factory rims and factory tire pressures. I have not experimented with tire pressures because I am so incredibly impressed with the factory handling that I really don't feel the need to experiment with my family car, especially for something that is only an issue when I'm screwing around. Once again, it never seems to do it in a drift, only when it breaks loose in a straight line, regardless of how smooth the trottle and clutch engagements are.

Thanks again for all of your input.

Cold tires will hop, less so with warm. Lowering pressure could help but then you eat the tire edges. Springs and/or shock changes can stop it all together.
