Hello all, first post here, I have had my 240 for almost 11 years now. She is pretty virgin, but now that things are starting to go I am replacing them. Today I got a call from my mechanic after it failed inspection, it needs a little tlc. Now that things are starting to go, I am replacing them with "performance" parts. FYI, I did try searching for this first.

One part I am having a hard time finding is it needs a new muffler, so I want to find an inexpensive muffler that has a possible slight growl, nothing ricey just for my listening pleasure. Also I don't want to break the bank (hence not just getting a cat-back). Does anyone have any recommendations for a bolt on muffler?

How is the sound? Is it really loud? I saw one on ebay, but was worried about it being too loud.

I've gotten compliments on it. It sounds good little rumble on startup damn near silent at idle and it has a deep tone, not like a gayo fart can. It does get kinda loud but it sounds good. I've never had the pd on my a** about it. Only bad thing I can say I had to cut 2 2" pieces of fuel hose down the middle to keep it from banging the hanger. Apparently eBay exhaust are notorious for the hangers not being perfect fit. Had this one for .... 6 years now. Its taking a real beating these last 4 yrs after I got lowering springs. MS roads and driveways are a real b**** especially when you go low. Oh ya I also have a "full" exhaust as far as header, test pipe and exhaust, as far as sound but it still sounded decent with just the test pipe an cat back. I bought the header a yr later

Some guys buy expensive exhausts but after the beating mine has taken I don't think ill ever buy a 600+ exhaust , not around here at least

Cool thanks. I have headers arriving today too, my egr rusted out, and I had it welded to the manifold last year so I have to replace the whole set up. I am emissions exempt though since I drive less then 5k miles a year on it, but I think I will keep the cat. I just need the car to pass the regular inspection and with an exhaust leak it won't. I've had this car since I was 19, and I am turning 30 in a couple months it is like my child.

Luckily good ole Mississippi has no emission regulations so I have no egr. I totally understand, glad to see it means that much to you. I got mine when I was 18 and I'm 25 now. I actually just purchased my second vehicle last year lol mostly just to have something while I started digging deep in it. It's been a long process but I could never part with her. For all the despair I've felt there's been at least 20x that in enjoyment.
