Well first hello. I'm new here. I live in Torrance. I'm 18 and I love 240's! I've been reading here for a while but haven't posted! i don't have a 240...yet!

well heres the story...I got off work at 9 pm and came home. I have a gf but she lives very far away. (Temple City, 35 mi away) My gf's first language isn't english, so i decided to review her english essay for her. I finished around 10 and took off to her place. I left her place at 12am. Got onto the 10W, then 110S. Shortly after I see redlights behind me. I was like oh $hit. So I get pulled over by a woman cop and get a ticket for going 85 in a 65. This is my first ticket. I certainly learned my lesson.

My mom is kind enough to lend me her car once in a while, so I'm able to see her. I'm currently working and going to school. I'm still saving for my 240. I really love my gf and I certainly wouldn't like to be deprived of my driving privileges! I haven't told my parents yet...I was wondering if I could possibly take care of this ticket myself? Could I just go to court alone and take care of everything? Any info or tips on fighting this ticket would be helpful!

I apologize if these are dumb questions. But my driving priviledges are important to me. Maybe I should just break up with her because she hates 240's! Hehe j/k.

Thank you! And be safe!

Rikii,

Diversion, Diversion, Diversion.

If you are willing to pay a little extra money and agree not to get pulled over again for anything for the next 6 months then diversion is the way to go. You're pretty much a lock to get it since you've never had a ticket before although the 20mph over may hurt, but it's definitely worth a shot.

If you pay the extra fee and don't get another ticket for 6 months, the ticket permanently stays off your record. That way no insurance problems and your parents won't have to know. But here's the rub. If you do get another ticket within the 6 months, you basically wasted all your money you paid on diversion as you now get slapped with the new ticket AND the old one.

But if you're willing to be super careful for a while and really don't want parents to know, then go diversion. Everyone likes to think they can go to court and get out of it but unfortunately that is not the case.

Good Luck,

Nick :)

I'm going to say something different.

Tell your parents. I have had 7 speeding tickets, and I have enough demerits to legally suspend 2 people's licenses. I didn't tell my parents about any of them, but a month ago they found out when the registry sent them a nice letter. Trust me, it got really ugly. They were angry, disappointed, and ready to sell my car. Fortunately, things are worked out now, but it was pretty terrible.

If you aren't going to be honest with your parents, who are you going to be honest with?

ps: If you're wondering how I'm still driving/modding my car..... Tricks of the trade ;)

i wish someone wouldve told me about that 4 months ago:( what happens after the 6 months are up and you get another ticket, could you get another diversion as long as its been 6 months and its not on your record or do they keep track of it?

They do keep track on diversions. It's in a nation-wide database that is searchable from county to county. The nice thing is that if you get a ticket exactly 6 months and 1 day from the date of your diversion, you aren't charged for two tickets...just that one. Sometimes you can get diversion again on another ticket but that all depends on the county and the DA and if you have connections. Overall, diversion is your best option no matter what, unless you are a bad driver.

By the way,

I agree with ninjak here. The smart thing is to tell your parents. They will want it off your record as much as you will and diversion will still be your best bet. Just remember that if you don't tell your parents now, how ticked will they be if you get another ticket within 6 months and get charged for both...including the one you 'failed to mention'.

yea, I agree as well, tell your parents... also I live in Anaheim and I know here you can take traffic school and not have the ticket go on your record.. but since it was for 20mph over the limit I don't know if you will be able to take traffic school.. it might be an automatic point or two... My wife got a ticket on the 5 and she didn't realize tht parts of the 5 has 55 limit and she was going 65~70 and she got a ticket for going 15 over and they said that she can't take traffic school since she was going way over the limit.. but it all depends on the court and what judge you get.. the judge my wife got was a hard arse... so good luck to you and let us know how things pan out for you...

in anycase... here's what I recomend.. tell yu parents.. say you are sorry.. because you really are.. and try to see if you can take traffic school and don't get a ticket for another 6 months...also don't try to fight it.. plead guilty and just tell the judge.. you learned your lesson...

Getting a ticket always sucks. I feel your pain. I think you should tell your parents though. If you can do this diversion thing, that would rock. Find out about the diversion issue in your area. Tell your parents about the ticket and how you've learned about diversion and that you've changed your ways. That way you'll be honest, intelligent, and truly sorry for what you've done. Parents love that stuff.

oh yea, or you can go to driving school, they usually offer you that if you are lucky! and after the driving school, your ticket wont affect your record!
