Who is looking for an awsome N/A SOHC Tune?

I'm now in the finishing stages of a tune that really wakes up the KA, especially in the high RPM range. Obvious improvement - also, top end speed limit removed.

All I have left to do is a dyno test. I'm expecting at least 20 HP on my bone stock 89.

I figure $299 is a fair price for a re-chiped ECU.

Just wondering who might be interested.

Sounds kinda high, but I guess that depends on what all you are doing. Some chips are simply a timing advance, and fuel remap, and a few other things, and they are sold much cheaper than that. Would you pay 299 for it? I'm sure there might be some people interested after you show some dyno proof of what it can do. You know that always helps. Either way, good luck selling it. On a side note, where around Detroit are you located? I'm in Monroe.

i'm gonna go ahead and have to laugh in your general direction.

DeviousKA has already been doing this for 100 bones. And deviousKA is the only person i would trust around here for tuning my SOHC (if i had one). he also offers a DOHC tune

JWT charges something like $500. I'm not aware of anybody else selling one for the SOHC. I have not heard that Devious is actually selling tunes.

As for the tune - besides eliminating top speed limit and raising rev limit, reworking timing and fuel maps are all that can be done to an ECU. But, this can make quite a difference. Especially in concert with other mods like an exhaust.

With this tune I think I've about squoze everything that can be squoze out of an ECU. I can't wait to get it on the dyno.

I live in Waterford

get results and people would be more likely to buy, maybe advertise in the classfieds section or ebay.

Devious was selling a 100 dollar plug and play stage 3 SOHC na tune. However, the only reason you havent heard anything about it recently is because he's been busy, do a little searching and you'll find it. I was randomly searching yesterday adn i found it....

100 bucks included an assembled motherboard and everything

I just got off his website and haven't seen anything about him chipping ECUs for cash. His stage 3 tune is posted for free but you will have to invest in a burner and have your board done. That's ~ $100 right there.

I know he plans to offer some type of service but I'm not aware of anything he's doing now. Anyway, I'm just trying to gauge interest at this pont.

BTW, this tune is more agressive than the stage 3.

i'm aware of this, what i was saying is that he was offering assembled boards with a preburned chip by him. But i'm only saying this, i definately do not want to put you down. I really think you should do this.

i just think 200 dollars sounds a bit better too me, especially when its from a guy, a random guy, instead of a reputable company.

i shouldn't have even opened my mouth, because i have a DE, however if you read a few threads down right now about the minimal differences between the E and DE boards, it should be possible to offer to a broader range of KA owners.

Edub, the information at the eccs forum is free to everyone and all intentions are to make tuning available to everyone, affordably.

Now, there is nothing prohibiting you from selling your tunes that you come up with, but realize at anything around this price you mentioned that this is completely against what we are trying to do at eccs tec.

Share your information, discuss with others, there is more for everyone to learn. So you leaned out a tune and made some power, just like I told you right, along with all the other information. If I or the others were greedy you wouldnt know any of this or be able to tune your ecu yourself, dont be greedy.

All of my tuning that I do for profit is on individual vehicle basis, I am only going to charge someone to tune the car properly with the proper assortment of equipment on site. I have shared free tunes, and even mentioned what it would take to finish them up for the individual vehicle. If you have accomplished this and are satisfied with your work, good job! Now help share what you know with others, I guarantee you will learn more in the process.

You can have the equipment and setup to tune your ka24e yourself for $60.00. That is assuming you already have a soldering iron or access to one. Your not going to sell a whole lot of tunes at that price with this information available, especially when people see this is how you yourself came to your tuning conclusion.

Not to mention, "more agressive" doesn't necessarily mean better. Going as lean as you can to make 3 more horsepower is idiotic, because your motor makes exactly 0 horsepower after it explodes.

Devious, I'm not looking to gouge fellow NICO members. I just thought I'd float the question out there to get a feel for the demand.

Many people have neither the time nor the inclination to learn how to tune their ECU. And most people would be fearfull of attempting their own soldier work. I had mine done for me.

I do appreciate your help and what I learned on your site. If people want to take the time to learn that stuff and they want to risk destroying their motors they have every right to do so. Hell, I'll even direct them to your website.

But I have a feeling that there are many people who would rather skip all that and pay a few bucks for a finished product.

Also, it's more like $100 minimum once you factor in soldiering and we aren't even talking dyno time or a wide band O2 sensor. Plus, we are talking about a great deal of time to learn how to tune.

Bottom line, If I charge $200 and we minus equipment/solieding, that leaves $100. Figure at least 40 hours to learn to tune, that's $2.50/hour. Then perhaps a couple hundred in dyno time. Now you've spent $300, invested 40 hours of your time working for penuts and ran the risk of blowing your motor.

When you factor in all that, plus the fact that people spend hundreds on piggbacks. I'd say $200 is a smoking deal.

Or, I could just not pay for dyno time, sell my burner, post up an untested tune and let the masses be tuneless.

If his chips are that good, can see good/great increases in horsepower without blowing up the motor for going to lean, then for him spending his own time, check a/f ratios, 200 to me is fair.

Make sure your chips work, gain a good amount of hp, safe a/f ratio, and you will be fine.

Question, how are you going to accomadate for whether a person has headers/intake/exhaust/ cam whatever, as well as the gas quality in their area. Certain elevation might have thinner air, and mess up your safe a/f ratio....

I've thought about that. I will test with 91 octane. Modest changes like cam & exhaust shouldn't be a problem as the stock MAF will add fuel as needed. Unless the build is real radical, compression shouldn't change enough to cause problems. If it does, I can modify the tune. Plus I ended up with a few durring development.

Mainly, this is a tune for a basically stock motor - although I'd love to test it with an exhaust. Heavily modified motors should be tuned on a per vehicle basis - prefferably on a dyno. That's not the demographic I had in mind.

As for high altitude. Off the cuff, I'd say that once again the MAF measures air mass so A/F shouldn't be a problem. One might be able to add timing to compensate for the lower VE. The tune would work though - perhaps even on 89 octane.
