if you knew how to read and didn't just look at the pretty pictures you would know he still has to wet sand it.

Yeah, but this seems to be the best of any of them. The paint this guy used seemed to turn out better than the rustoleum.

Maaco is a crap shoot. I'd trust myself more than a random Maaco, and it's cheaper to DIY.

hey!..thats what we did to one of my jeeps

it took 2 or 3 coats to get it just right, bu tit looks pretty decent, and it took scratches pretty well without a clear coat.

sometimes one color looks better than multi/burned clear coat

Ooooo for the love of your car, you do NOT want to take it to Macco.. If i only had my 'Teg still oh man, did they do a job on that. I can laugh now that iv sold it but man, here ill tell you a little story.

I had a 94 acura integra that i bought when i slammed into the back of it with my jeep. 3 grand to buy it, 2 grand to fix it, easy choice. I worked on every single dent, scrape, and had the car looking smooth man, probably spent over 200 hours on it, at least. Then i spent another 40-50 hours wet-sanding it down to 1000 grit. I mean this baby was ready to get a heck of a paint job, and damn if it didnt get one.

I was worried when i went to macco, so i told the guy who was going to paint my car, 'Hey man, iv spent 50 hours wet-sanding this thing. All you need to do is prime it, go back over it with 600 grit and your good to go, NO ORBITAL SANDERS PLEASE'. He assured me, oh yea we'll make sure to do that, we do that to all our cars, Macco really does a good job.

My car gets finished the same freaken day. As soon as he calls me, and tells me this im saying to myself.... Well you can figure it out. Pick it up, we got orange peel all over the top of the car, at least 3-4 good sized runs, a few fisheyes, and a big section where the jack a who sanded my car used a jitterbug with a ripped piece of sandpaper. So basically i had a big section of my car with swirl patterns where the metal disk in the middle of the sander cut into the primer.

600 dollars cash, prepayed, and they wouldnt fix any of the garbage work they did. After the fact, the guy is talking to me and im pretty pissed, and hes telling me 'oh man im just a house painter'.

If you want my advice take your car to a reputable dealer in your area with a spraybooth. This is probably the cheapest, and best way your going to get a paint job.

That's why you should never prepay for this type of work.

Man, you should have sued them in small claims court, though.

SensibleS13Driver got a pretty good paint job at Earl Scheib.

It depends on the location, but unless you know someone, you don't know how good it's going to be until you take the plunge.

At any rate, never prepay.

Orange peel is kinda hard to explain, but if you saw it you'd know. Basically if a car is painted, sanded and buffed correctly, you could look at the paint and see your reflection almost like you were looking into a mirror. With orange peel, if you look at your reflection in the car, it will appear to have the skin of an orange's texture to it (you know with the dimples and pits). Most cars (aka GM, Honda, Nissan, Ford, etc) will have this from the factory. On your higher end cars, orange peel is less noticeable. Make sense? If not, go to a Porsche dealership and compare your reflection in your car (assuming you have a two stage factory paint) to a Porsche. You'll see the difference. Or you could even compare a Ford to a BMW....Hope that helps.

As a side note to the above, don't ever take your car to Macco unless you absolutely have to and can't afford anything else. I built a 79 Trans Am and my buddy did all the prep work for the paint and we sent it to Macco. They painted over an ant on the hood, they left paint runs all over the car, there was trash everywhere in the paint....I could go on. But suffice it to say that if I had it all to do again, I would have left my car primered for two years and saved up some money for a good shop to handle the paint. The paint on your car is very important. Its the first thing anyone (including yourself) sees, and once the paint is on there, its hard to fix the imperfections....

you get what you pay for. 600 for a paint job is dirt cheap. I don't even think it'll cover the cost for the window seals on the 40 alone if they do the paint job right lol.
