So about a year ago my 2009 LE starts having this issue where it suddenly looses power and begins running incredibly rough, intermittently. I take to the dealer who, of course, can't reproduce it, so can't find anything wrong. I say there is truly something wrong and I get the "bring it back if it happens again" thing. So, it does happen again and again, but never when I am in a position to just bring it in and it goes away as fast as it happens, so... Well, finally, I realize that it seems to happen when I let the car idle for more than 10-15 minutes, then try to drive it. Hooray! I can show the dealer exactly what is happening. But wait, they say it is something called the "crank position sensor" and it will cost me $350.00+. Why I ask, because I am 5000 over my bumper to bumper. But wouldn't an engine sensor be considered part of the engine? NOPE!! But hey, didn't I bring it in 12000 miles ago with the same issue? No, because they would have seen the code. What?! I called Nissan to explain the situation and they basically stonewall me and won't even listen to what I have to say. I spent $40,000 and this is what I get?

Through out the whole situation I have been treated horribly by Nissan and the dealership and will never by anything from Nissan again.

I totally understand your frustration. I would not consider myself a Nissan cheerleader by any means (although I do love the Murano), but before you sign off on the brand totally over $350, remember that you won't get any better treatment elsewhere. If car companies replaced every part that "may" be a problem with no evidence from their standpoint, they would soon go out of business. If you were the service manager and couldn't find anything wrong with a customer's car, what would you do? How much money would you spend replacing parts that apparently work just fine? Just playing devil's advocate here because I have had much, MUCH worse experiences with other manufacturers- namely American brands, but Mazda as well. And in those instances, I was out thousands of dollars...

When I purchased mine I was told this is not a bumper to bumper warranty but a limited warranty.

Still would check with another dealer.

I am having a similar problem with my Harley and dealer has not been able to reproduce the issue. They know I am right as I have proved them wrong in the past so they believe me. Still working the issue and now have been albe to identify a pattern and can reproduce the symptom so I will now take it back. Stuff gets frustrating.

By the way the crank position sensor is a sensor that tells the ECU where the crank shaft is during its revolution this information allows the computer to know when to fire the fuel injectors and also when to fire each spark plug, ignition timing. Electronic fuel injected vehicles are full of sensors to help tune the engine while it is being driven.

I feel your pain my friend, I been there.
Got that treatment from Toyota and Honda as well American brand name cars manufactures.

For the amount of money you've spend I think you should be getting a better service.
I am done with Honda and Toyo period. I won't get into details but they are awful, especially Toyo before they got the recall problems.
I just purchased our first Subaru, a 2010 Subaru Impreza wagon Sport for the wife and she loves it. So far so good.
And I just got a used 04' Murano and love it.

I don't see myself buying any new car anytime soon from Toyo or Honda.
Do what you gotta do, I done it. I got rid of an 07' CRV Honda after many problems 10 months after the purchase and many hours in the phone with those idiots.

Not for nothing, Hyundai is looking really good, I am serious...

Good luck, it is only a car, don't let it interfere with your happiness.
Cars come and go, life comes only ones.

so to update, a few days later it breaks down. I get it started and it is doing the stalling thing so we take it back. This time they reprogram the transmission control module. A week later, happens again. It has been in for 3 days now and they are working with nissan to figure it out (i hope!!). So at least they haven't charged me for anything since the first 350 and gave me a loaner. That helps. Sadly, we have lost confidence in the vehicle. Imagine trying to merge in rush hour traffic and having it stall or lose power, starts to get dangerous. One of the main reasons I bought it was for the safety it should have provided for my 3 young children. But who knows, maybe they will surprise me. Thanks for the replies BTW!!

You know, if you first report the problem while the vehicle is under warranty, and they can't diagnose it after the warranty expires, I believe you are entitled to a refund; I'm almost certain of this.

Why would you let your car idle for 10-15 minutes?
