AWD ?

I have a 04 nissan murano.I just wanted to know. Is our awd always on? and If i wanna lock the awd does it have to be in parked,or could i turn it on while im in Drive? and on the button it says AUTO but i could only lock it i cant put it on auto.

I think that it always on up to something like 30 MPH where it then automatically goes into FWD.

Happy Holidays from the Murano Forum! Welcome to NICOclub! The '03-'07 Murano has an AWD lock button. This will lock the AWD up to 25mph. Once above 25 MPH the AWD shifts back to FWD unless wheel slipage is detected. If you DO NOT have the lock on, then the vehicle will be in FWD unless slipage is detected. Once you turn the AWD lock button, it is on until you turn it off (meaning it will be in AWD at speeds up to 25mph).

On the '09 Murano, the AWD is slightly more advanced. Due to this, the AWD lock is only needed if the vehicle is actually stuck, at which time you would hit the AWD lock button to attempt to recover your vehicle. Once you get up to speed (I believe around 15-20mph) the lock turns off until you are in a stopped position and you turn it on again. From what I understand the '09 AWD is more sensitive than previous models, and reacts very quickly to any wheel slipage, therefore activating the AWD quicker.

Ok i thought that ones you lock it. It would stay in AWD till you unlock it so that means i really don't even have to lock it because it would switch to AWD itself when it feels the car is stuck or sliping?THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. IT HELP ME OUT ALOT.
