I thought that if you manually push the AWD button on after the car reaches 11 mph it automatically kicks out, but it didn't today when I was driving in a terrible storm. Am I all wrong on this? Randy

I assume you are talking about the AWD lock indicator located just to the left of the tach needle. It should turn off at higher speeds. Perhaps another AWD owner can comment on this?

BTW, the purpose of AWD lock button is to lock the system to 50/50 front/rear power distribution. You should only be using it for extra traction in snow, gravel, mud and other loose surfaces. When the AWD lock is OFF, the system will run in full automatic mode and vary the torque split between the front and rear wheels as needed to maintain traction.

Using the AWD lock on dry pavement is not advised as it may increase fuel consumption, tire wear and put undue stress on the transmission and transfer case.

Now, the AWD light shoule

Yes, that's what I meant. I pushed the AWD lock button at the bottn left side of the dash and the AWD lock light went on. I was just trying it out during some major rain storms, but never went out. Maybe I didn't give it enough time?Randy

the awd lock should kick off around 30 mph or so, california speed limit in snow conditions is 25.... granted i grew up in the snow (5+ feet at a time) and with great snow tires i could stupidly do about 40 but that was because i knew my roads and i knew when i was on ice and when i was on snow. anyways i wouldnt worry about it, but if your tires aren't slipping i wouldn't put it on it can put a lot of unneeded stress on the transmission
