Okay this is my 3rd time at trying to post this... Stupid computer..

BEFORE the flaming starts let the record show that I have a 90 240sx hatchback(totalled last week tho! And DESPERATELY looking for another one to replace it now)

A friend of mine is looking to buy a 95-99 Eclipse and wants to convert it to RWD(IF it's even possible I'd guess it would be hugely expensive and difficult) I tried selling him on the idea of an S14 but he likes the styling of the 2G eclipse. Only reason I'm asking u guys, is I tried looking on google and yahoo for any info on it but only came up with FWD to AWD. There seems to be alot of knowledge on this forum and I thought I might be able to help a friend without getting flamed by people who I consider to think simliarly to me.

P.S. Anybody wanting to sell their black S13 hatch, look me up.

R.I.P. my old friend... :(

brent Rau did it in his 2g, there was talk that the starioin transmission bolts up to the 4g63 maybe it wasnt the starion it was some DSM truck from the eighties, although brent has a race spec g-force clutchless that is probably a one off but your friend could check out http://www.dsmtalk.com there has been some talk about it

here is RAu's car

I've sat in Eclipses and Talons and even tho I'm only 5'8", I have a taller upper body and my head hits the roof of the car if it has a moonroof.

I don't have that problem in my 90 Hatch w/ power sunroof. Not even close to it.

Throw in the fact that they don't have a RWD car to begin with, Nissan was the only way to go for me :)

Oh well my friend is a couple inches shorter then me. Whatever floats your boat right?

My roommate is a big DSM freak and he has found some information about the RWD conversion on http://www.DSMtuners.com. That would be another place that your friend could look.

Thanks for not flaming me for this thread. I love cars and performance regardless of if they're Nissan, honda, or DSM, and am always trying to help out a friend or even a stranger when I can.

So far it looks like my friend better give up the RWD dream tho cause it definetly is more complicated then I even thought.

He's found a couple GSX's and GS-T's and won't listen to me about just getting a RWD car and using the extra $ on mods.

Oh well

Duh, unless your fiend has tons of $$ to burn, forget it!!

I know some guys in Japan they somehow have done AWD to FR for WRX. From what I've heard, you have to open up transmission then weld and cut something to ensure all power goes to main propeller shaft to the rear end pumpkin, meaning you have to figure out a way to redistribute all power from transmission to rear end as most 4WDs have center lock up mechine part acting like a LSD to ensure front and rear all get power, 50% goes to front and 50% goes to rear. you just have to find out how to make it 100 % to the rear!!

BTW, Starion's engine layout is "North-South", There is no way to bolt it on the Eclipse which has a East-West layout; a typical FWD base layout. no way.........

Cheers.
