Hi guys. I have a 2012 M37x and am looking into lowering options.
I've been reading online for a while, and it seems only BC makes coilovers for the X model. I found threads and signatures that talk a bit about Tanabe having a option as well, but I haven't seen anything about the AWD model. I also saw that someone ordered the Blitz ZZ-R coilovers from Japan, and they bolted right up, but his car also wasn't the X model. Can someone who may have a better grasp on this let me know if I'm missing something out there.
I see that Tanabe is looking for cars to develop some for the Q70 AWD model, http://www.tanabe-usa.com/rnd/ but I don't know if anyone with one in the area is even aware of it. And somewhere online I saw a post that someone said Q50 suspension components may be the same as ours. Was that ever confirmed? And if anyone knows, how big is the difference between the RWD and AWD coils? Are we talking minor things or drastic difference and fitment issues? Any help would be appreciated greatly.

You'll have fitment issues with the AWD vs RWD stuff I believe. I'm in the same boat (also AWD). I'm just going to go with BC, they are pretty good parts and you can't really go wrong with them. I'm going to upgrade the springs to Swift springs, which should improve the ride.

Thanks for the reply. Any idea how the BC coils would feel compared to stock for ride quality? I"m mostly looking to remove the huge wheel gap. And what do the Swift springs do? I haven't heard of that.

oh GOD please someone with AWD head over to Tanabe for a R&D!!! I had their coils for my G37 and the ride was amazing. I would much rather prefer Tanabe over BC. The refinement and quality is at a higher level. NO NOISE ISSUES!

I've been in touch with Tanabe in the past and I don't think they understand that the Q70 and the M37/M56 are interchangable. In addition they seem headed towards making only lowering springs at the moment which annoyed me. I'm glad Tanabe is considering making aftermarket parts for your car, but I don't think understand what we want. I would advise everyone to contact Tanabe and inquire about making coilovers for the Y51 chassis.

I had no noise issues on my 07 M35x with BC's. Ride wasn't much different from stock...it's going to change regardless since you lowered the car but I had it on the softest settings and it was still quite comfortable.

Only thing that started to happen to me after about 20kmi of having the BC's is that my stabilizer links started to go bad every 5-6k. Tried like 5 different brands and all of them went bad. Don't know if the suspension settled too much or what and put stress on it?

When I lower the M56x, I plan to get adjustable arms, etc. this time and 'do it right'.

Didn't someone recently install BC Racing coilovers on their Y51 and had issues with the "dreaded clunking" sound after installing the BC suspension?

It's really hit or miss with BC across any make and model that they make coilovers for, which is why I was really disappointed to find out that they were the only coilover option available for AWD. But yeah, the clunking noise is what most car forums complain about with BC coilovers. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a member here.

I believe they already have lowering springs for the Y51, but the issue is that the front wheel gap is still terrible compared to Eibach. Another problem is that they're located in CA and there is no reason for anyone on CA to have AWD, so it kind of limits their "test subjects." :frown:

EDIT: I also just sent them an email indicating that the Q70 and M platform are the same and that they should open up the cars so they could possibly get more applicants. Also that there are other parts of the country where AWD is more prevalent and that they would get support outside of CA. We'll see how that goes lol

I think that was BlackCat with his Y50. Don't think it was a Y51...but I may be wrong.

I'm just basing my information off of my 2007 and many people who've installed them. Most brands are of similar quality as actually a lot of them are made in the same factory and painted different colors. It was said BC's basically were K-Sports (if I recall).

I'd be interested in the Scale suspension, but they don't make a kit for the AWD.

Regardless, many many many Infiniti guys (G, M, etc.) have BC's and like them. As with any 'mass produced' item, you'll occasionally get lemons. That's why I only buy from authorized sellers so I can exchange them/get warranty.

There is that volunteer rollcall list and I know there is an AWD located in Southern California. LOL

I didnt even know that they finalized a lowering spring for the Y51. In the meantime I wonder if we can convince them to make an coilover system for the RWD/AWD applications in addition to producing an exhaust system as well.

Great to see there is some interest. Bombard Tanabe with e-mails. I would 100% buy them. As a Canadian I am having trouble finding the BC coilovers anyways. I'm sure someone will ship them to Canada but a lot of places won't. More options is always a good thing, let's hope they can get their hands on a AWD test subject and do actual coilovers.

Gents, I have a set of AWD RS-R lowering springs I'm willing to let go of for $225 shipped (I just need to find a box for them). I installed them but ended up getting coilovers.

Anyone interested, PM me. Thanks.

Ya, my rears were SUPER noisy. I left the lowering spring in place and replaced the shocks with KYB's. I have my front BC coilovers set on the softest setting, it's stiffer than stock in my opinion but certainly not uncomfortable, even on Chicago winter roads.

I'm either too dumb, or as a new member not allowed to send PMs. Neither would surprise me... Any pics with them installed? What's the reason for going to coils? You can e-mail me @ [email protected]

Unfortunately I didn't have them on my car very long so that's the only picture I can find of them.

I got a good deal on the coils from someone local so I jumped on it, that was the only reason for me switching. I planned on keeping these as a backup plan in the event something were to ever go wrong with the coils. They're taking up space and figured I'd pass them along to someone who would get more/better use out of them.

It definitely looks better than stock, but I can't really find any info anywhere on them, and I'm scared of lowering springs not giving me what I'm hoping for so coilovers would be preferred. I'm doing wheels first, and maybe end of the year I'll be shooting for the drop, depending on the money situation. With the state of the Canadian dollar at the moment, it's not looking good, lol. Maybe another coilover option shows up by then as well. I'm mostly scared of the weird clunking noises I hear about. It blows my mind that it can't be fixed up somehow for the people that get the noise.

Tanabe USA is currently still looking for a 2015+ Q70 AWD test vehicle. If you guys are serious about wanting to see coilovers developed we should email them inquiring that we want COILOVERS and not lowering springs made for the 2011+ M37/M56/Q70 AWD. Looks like we have a V8 AWD somewhere in socal

Email Tanabe inquiring if they are making coilovers for the AWD; [email protected]

please be sure to email that you sent an email Tanabe and post updates with your interaction with them. :)

Thank you for the inquiry and information.

We currently offer parts for the M35/M37 applications. Unfortunately, being in Southern, California it is hard for us to find on AWD applications in which we can test on. For the specific models, we list those parts that specifically for that application on our website. The chassis’s may be the same but we can only list on the applications in which we’ve tested.

Are they aware the M35 and M37 are not the same thing? They still sound confused... Or now I am the confused one. I sent them a e-mail about it as well about a week ago, and I haven't received a reply.

lol. Their customer service rep must be getting annoyed at all of us Y51ers trying to get them to develop products so we can GIVE THEM MONEY in exchange for it.
